Prototype 11/12 Tear Of Kolam | PAPP

A lentoid-shaped (lens-shaped) body of a specialised ritual flask manufactured from vibrant green glazed faience. The main body is robustly potted with two broad, convex sides that taper into a flattened, vertical band running along the vessel's outer edges. The upper neck section, which originally would have terminated in a papyrus-column or lotus-bud mouth flanked by small handles, is now entirely broken away and missing. Encircling the shoulders of the flask are concentric, incised bands containing delicate floral and geometric patterns. Just beneath this decorative collar, a band of incised hieroglyphic text runs across the upper shoulders. The glaze displays areas of weathering, surface pitting, and a mottled brownish-blue patina across both faces. This flask dates to the Late Period (c. 664–332 BC).

The figurine is fashioned from a weathered, light-coloured faience core, adopting an active, non-mummiform stance with the left foot forward. The right arm is held across the chest and holds a whip to signify command, while the left arm rests straight down by the side. The figure features a prominent projecting kilt or apron extending from the waist, and wears a wig decorated with a seshed-headband painted black. The black pigment of the headband forms a distinct cross-like tied ribbon pattern visible on the reverse of the head. The surface shows considerable wear, presenting a matt, porous texture with minor pitting, and a faint green-blue glaze residue.
