Critter Crew - German Shepherd

A young shepherd sits in timeless stillness his gaze lost in the distant hills. At his side a loyal hound keeps watch alert yet calm mirroring his master s quietude. The simple staff and bare figure speak of a life in harmony with nature one of solitude not of sadness but of serenity. Though no words are spoken the bond between boy and dog is palpable. In this tranquil moment the sculpture captures the enduring form of silent companionship.

The Shepherd Boy And His Hound

This statue represents a shepherd boy. He holds a staff in his right hand and rests his left foot on a rock while gazing intently at something in the distance. At his feet sits a loyal guard dog poised and alert. The sculpture conveys a sense of both calm and vigilance reflecting the simplicity and hardship of pastoral life. Cast in iron the piece evokes the deep connection between humanity and nature in a weighty dignified form.

Iron Shepherd Boy

A figured ostracon consisting of a dynamic sketch executed in red and brown pigments upon the relatively flat surface of a limestone sherd. The upper register depicts a standing cow, a zoomorphic manifestation of the goddess Hathor, identifiable by the sacred solar disc nestled between her long, curved horns. Beneath the divine animal is a lower register showing a procession of figures with their arms raised in the traditional gesture of adoration or praise. The lines of the sketch are delicately applied but weathered, with some fading evident across the lower figures. The reverse of the limestone flake is unworked and features a handwritten notation in blue pencil indicating that the object originates from Deir el-Medina. The object dates to the New Kingdom (c. 1550–1069 BC),

Figured Ostracon (W1327)

Sidney, known more commonly as Sid, is a ground sloth who is part of a herd of different animals after a number of adventures and experiences brought them all together.

Born into a family of sloths that went on to abandon him well into his adulthood, Sid met a mammoth named Manny and a saber-tooth tiger named Diego as the three of them made a journey through a tundra to return a human baby named Roshan to his tribe. Following the journey, the three animals remained the best of friends, forming their own "Herd".

Painting

Manfred, better known as Manny, is a mammoth and the leader of the herd of different animals brought together after various adventures and experiences. In the first film, at first he was unfriendly, sour, cranky, ill-tempered, cynical, wrathful, grouchy, sarcastic, grumpy, surly, angry, ornery, lonely, cold and stubborn, but at the end, he becomes kind, selfless, heroic, warm-hearted, brave, nice and sweet. Once a devoted father and husband, Manfred loved his wife and child dearly, protecting them well until a band of humans on the hunt came between them. Manny attempted to fend them off but was unsuccessful as his wife and child were killed. This left Manny embittered with the world at large, being cold and indifferent towards other creatures.

Ice Age - Manny The Mammoth (Manfred)

A rim sherd from a handmade, carinated bowl of fine, micaceous silt. There are abundant inclusions of mica, some fine sand, and organic materials. The exterior is very eroded but was originally coated with a thick plum-red slip and burnished. The upper part of the interior is coated with a plum-red slip and horizontally burnished. 

This vessel dates to the Badarian Period, one of the earliest sedentary cultures in the Nile Valley (c. 4500–4000 BC). It was excavated from Feature 1834 in the Badarian Cemetery 1800 at Armant. Site 1800 consisted of a series of sunken hut circles or grain pits. They were excavated by the Egypt Exploration Society during the 1935–36 season, providing a clear context for these early Predynastic burial practices and material culture. The excavations at Armant between 1935–38 remain unpublished.

Rim Sherd Of A Medium Bowl (AR503000)

Item held in the Hellenic and Roman Library at the Institute of Classical Studies in London, bequethed by Victor Ehrenberg.

Light tan pottery sherd, possibly dating on the second Late Minoan period( L.M.II?,1470-1420 BC), found at Tiryns in 1925.
The obverse is decorated with brown and red horizontal stripes,with some paint loss; the reverse bears the inscription "Tirynes".

This model was made using photogrammetry, using two chunks (one of the top and one of the bottom of the object), consisting of  photographs. Once each chunk was complete, they were aligned using markers and merged to make one chunk, allowing a 360º view of the complete object.

This sculpture captures a weary shepherd boy slumped against a log deeply asleep. A hat rests in one hand while a staff lies gently at his feet. His lowered head and softened limbs evoke a sense of quiet repose. The vulnerable posture feels familiar and sincere as though he continues watching over his flock in his dreams.

This model was made using photogrammetry with a Nikon D850 DSLR camera and a total of 143 photographs, using an electric turntable and fabric light tent, then processed using Agisoft Metashape. We merged two separate chunks (one of the top and one of the bottom of the object), aligned using markers and merged to make one chunk, allowing a 360º view of the complete object.

A fragment from the wall of a coarse pottery jar, composed of an unglazed marl clay. Appliquéd and modeled in high relief on the exterior surface is the head of a horned cow, a zoomorphic representation of the goddess Hathor. The facial features include prominent, rounded eyes with incised circular details, an elongated snout with defined nostrils, and subtle textural incisions along the cheeks suggesting hair or skin folds. The long, upward-curving horns frame the upper head, though the tips are lost due to the fractured edges of the sherd. The reverse side reveals a relatively smooth, unfinished ceramic wall.

This vessel fragment features a broad chronological attribution, potentially dating anywhere from the New Kingdom to the Ptolemaic Period (c. 1550–30 BC).

Hathor Jar (W1284a)

Four reassembled fragments of a medium bowl, comprising three rim fragments and one body fragment. It has a direct rim and a rounded base. The vessel is handmade from fine Nile silt, containing visible inclusions of fine chaff, mica, and limestone. It is a soft-fired piece with a lightly burnished finish on both surfaces. The interior and the upper portion of the exterior are distinctive for their black colouration, while the remainder of the exterior is a warm brown. The vessel features several ancient mending holes drilled along the break lines, used to lash the pieces together during its period of use. The exterior base shows significant wear, suggesting frequent utilitarian use. This vessel is a significant example of Badarian ware, representing one of the earliest sedentary cultures in the Nile Valley (c. 4500–4000 BC). From Feature 1824, Site 1800 at Armant.

Diego is a saber-toothed tiger that is part of a herd of animals after living out a number of experiences that united them all.

Initially a cunning and remorseless hunter in a pack of other sabers, Diego was to deliver a human baby to his pack leader, Soto, as revenge upon the humans. during his interception of the child, Diego met a mammoth named Manfred and a sloth named Sid, who had already taken the child and, in time, convinced the saber to leave his old pack and join up with them as part of the herd.
