Vintage Brass Wall Light

In late February 2023, the SCDNR Archaeology team was informed that a section of a 19th century corduroy road had been exposed and was rapidly eroding from the Pockoy Island shoreline located on Botany Bay Plantation Heritage Preserve/Wildlife Management Area.

This feature was photoscanned during monthly shoreline monitoring of Pockoy Island from March to August 2023 to document the extent of the resource for digital preservation, and to document another example of the impacts coastal erosion has on Pockoy Island.

Skrofont Homunculus

This 3D model is a high-fidelity photogrammetry scan of a section of the Casa da Roda in Caria, Portugal.

The "House of the Wheel" is a site of significant social importance, once serving as an institution where infants were anonymously abandoned to the care of the state or church via a revolving wooden cylinder—the "wheel". This specific section shows the granite exterior wall and the stone-framed aperture where the wheel mechanism was historically located.

This asset was developed as part of a doctoral research project in Design. The goal is to use Virtual Reality (VR) and digital reconstruction to challenge romanticized views of the past, fostering historical empathy by immersing users in the sensitive narratives of abandonment and care that define this space.

Antique Wooden Field Camera

This is a 3D photogrammetry model of an antique bronze ceremonial headpiece/ "mask". The mask is that of Panjuruli, a (wild-boar) deity, from the Bhootaradhane (Bhoothakola) pantheon. This artefact is used, mostly by the people of Tulunada (coastal Karnataka, India), in ritual and ceremonial performances.

This 3D photogrammetric model captures wooden structural remnants identified within the former Nováky labour camp landscape during a walkover survey. The recorded feature may represent surviving elements associated with former barrack structures, providing insight into the material remains and preservation of camp infrastructure within the surrounding environment.

**Condition Report:**
This statue represents the "Critical Loss" stage of historical preservation. The figure, likely marking the grave of a child, has suffered catastrophic mechanical failure, losing both the head and right arm. The surface is heavily colonized by crustose lichen and moss, which are actively dissolving the stone surface (biological weathering).

**Project Relevance:**
The American Digital Heritage Project digitized this artifact to document the rate of biological erosion. Without digital intervention, the remaining inscription on the scroll base will likely become illegible within the next decade. This model preserves the current state of the object for future conservation study.

Condition Report: This 3D preservation scan documents the structural state of the primary elevation. Significant biological weathering (moss/ivy) is visible on the upper right cornice. The scan captures the high-relief sculpture above the arch (draped urn flanked by cherubs) and the iron entrance doors, preserving the current patina and erosion patterns for historical analysis.

This 3D model gives a glimpse of rock carving at Kino Kor which was digitally documented in 2025 using Photogrammetry and 3D Laser Scanning technology under a project titled "Digital Preservation of Pakistan's Heritage" by the team from LUMS. AI-assisted reconstruction of a traditional Vietnamese theatre mask photographed during a visit to Vietnam.

Generated from a single reference photograph as part of an ongoing series exploring the transformation of photography into reusable three-dimensional assets. While the original object features strong graphic patterns and high-contrast painted details that present challenges for image-to-3D workflows, the resulting model successfully captures the distinctive silhouette, colour palette, and expressive character of the mask.

This study highlights both the strengths and limitations of current AI-assisted reconstruction techniques. Much of the mask's identity is preserved through its painted surface design, while some sculptural details have been simplified or inferred during the modelling process.

Cultural Study 01 – Du Thieu Mask

**Object:** Fireman's Memorial Marker (Helmet Motif)
**Location:** Cincinnati, OH
**Date:** Late 19th Century

**Historical Significance:**
This marker features a traditional 19th-century firefighter's helmet. Monuments like these honor the dangerous reality of volunteer fire brigades during the industrial age.

**Preservation Status & Discovery:**
This "Digital Twin" captures two critical elements of the monument's current state. First, the upper block has been severely displaced from its pedestal base, likely due to kinetic impact (such as a fallen tree limb or heavy groundskeeping equipment). Second, the digitization process revealed intricate carved foliage and wreath details surrounding the helmet—features that were nearly invisible to the naked eye in the field due to heavy biological growth and shadows. This scan ensures these hidden details are preserved and easily studied.

Firefighter Memorial: Displaced Base (19th C.)

**Object:** 19th Century Firefighter Burial Marker Location: Northern Kentucky / Greater Cincinnati Region Method: Photogrammetry (RealityScan / Cross-Polarized) Condition Report: This high-fidelity scan documents the current state of biological weathering (moss growth) and surface erosion on the limestone base. The digital preservation of this asset allows for long-term monitoring of the degradation of the hand-carved "leather helmet" motif, a symbol of 1800s fire brigades.
