The North Ridge of Petra is an elevated area overlooking the city, excavated by ACOR, revealing Nabataean, Roman, and Byzantine remains, including tombs, domestic structures, and early Christian buildings such as the Ridge Church and the Blue Chapel.

# Description:
> Nabataean bowl made of ceramic earthenware, light red in color with white on the rim. It measures 13.9 cm in rim diameter and 4 cm in height. The bowl is incomplete.

**Methodology:** Scanned by GDH in July 2025 using Canon R5. Processed in RealityCapture.

Former floor slab for John Cantwell and his wife Elicia Stouc, now standing upright against the north wall of the chancel of Kilcooley Abbey Church. It is signed by Callan stone carver Rory O'Tunney on the central part with the R he used on the Butler tomb at Kilcooley and other places in Co. Kilkenny. The slab has an inscription in blacklettering running around the left, top and right border starting with "Hic jacet Johanes Ca(n)twell". Since the inscription mentions his wife as well, the verb should be "jacent", and maybe it is and I overlooked the n ligature.

Carrigan (1905) read "HIC IACET JOHANES CATWELL QUODA DUS DE MOYLASSAIN Qi OBIIT I VIGILA SCI / PATRICI A DO M/ CCCCCXXXII ET ELICIA STOUC EI' UXOR / RORICUS OTWNYE SCRIPSIT".

Funerary inscription of the Spurius family. Roman, 2nd century BCE. Marble, pigment; 35 x 34.5 x 8 cm. ID: 0000.00.1037.

This tombstone for the Spurius family is a rare example of a Republican-period inscription from the Bay of Naples, but it shows some facets that became standardized in later tombstones. The grouping of relatives together in a large tomb was a common practice to demonstrate the family’s wealth, especially if it was in a prominent location.

Intriguingly, this inscription was carved on a re-used column base, one of numerous examples of the re-use of building materials for inscriptions and vice-versa.

Translation: "Gnaeus Spurius, the son of Ovus; Singullia, the daughter of Marcus; Marcus Spurius, the son of Gnaeus; Gnaeus Spurius, the son of Gnaeus Frugus."
