One of the most inspiring movie-scenes I saw was the moment Ballard and his crew saw the Titanic for the first time, looming from her dark and silent, cold grave. 

Here's my Tilt Brush Titanic Shipwreck, which can be found laying at the bottom of the sea I created over the past two weeks at my office. I didn't succeed in creating the interior as well, because I reached my Tilt Brush file size limits again. Therefore you better watch this scene from your pc as well and not from a mobile device, because that will likely cause the loading screen to crash.
I experimented with several rendering settings, started with the Matcap, tried others but ended up again with Matcap again: what's left of the wreckage is metal, most colours and other materials have gone, so this seemed the right decision to me.

Tilt Brush "Titanic", final version

This partial model was generated from 211 images taken with GoPro Hero 9 utilising the Agisoft Metashape software at High resolution. The site lies in close proximity to another of similar size. It comprises a parts of a winch (pawl ring and shaft) and a concentration of timbers at the edge of the channel (the stern). The timbers comprise a keel/keelson and external planking converging to the point of the stern. It is likely that the site is that of a Milford Haven fishing vessel laid up here at the end of its working life and broken up here for the removal of recyclable metals and timber.

This model was generated from 90 images taken with a GoPro Hero 9 camera utilising the Agisoft Metashape software at high resolution. The site is a small metal vessel. The wreck has a similar length to the traditional wooden sailing craft (11-12m) used for oyster dredging. However, it is likely that the wreck is more modern and it appears to include a small pot-hauling winch.

Wreck at the Mumbles 2 September 2023

EN: A partially burnt wooden barrel, originally filled with sand. Found in a wreck with signs of burning and likely a gunpowder explosion. Dimensions: length 25 cm, diam. underside 17cm, largest diam. 24 cm. Kept at the Dutch National Maritime Archaeological Depot at Museum Batavialand. Excavated from shipwreck OK45, found on lot K45 near Dronten, province of Flevoland, the Netherlands. Wreck date: 1672/1673.

NL: Een deels verbrande ton, oorspronkelijke gevuld met zand. Gevonden in een wrak dat sporen vertoonde van brand en een vermoedelijke kruitexplosie. Burned barrel (verbrande ton) K45-127

This model was generated from 93 images taken with GoPro Hero Black 9 camera using Agisoft Metashape at high resolution. The name of the vessel is presently unknown, but it is believed to be the remains of one of the many small oyster skiffs that once worked around Swansea Bay. Indeed, during the peak of the industry between 1850-1873, over 1 million oysters were being landed per year at the Mumbles. Oyster skiffs were a small specialised sailing craft, typically measuring between 37-40ft (11.2-12.1m) in length, with a keel of about 31ft (9.5m). The remains comprise a keel, large metal fastenings and a few frames on the port side and match these dimensions. The beach sediment transport direction is south-westward towards Mumbles Head. This was evident on repeat visits, with a build up of largely windblown sand on the northern side of the wreck. Otherwise, the beach sediment levels are reported to be staple. Ceramic cup (drinkkopje) Z1946-VII12

Hollywood film director James Cameron, who directed the 1997 movie Titanic, has told the BBC the team who built the submersible which imploded with the loss of five lives had "cut corners".

OceanGate, the parent company of the Titan sub, "didn't get certified because they knew they wouldn't pass".

"I was very suspect of the technology that they were using. I wouldn't have gotten in that sub," he said.

Cameron has completed 33 submersible dives to the Titanic wreck.

Titan was built from carbon fibre and titanium.

In 2012 Cameron used a different technology for the Deepsea Challenger submersible expedition in the Pacific, which took him down to 10,912m (35,800ft), the deepest known oceanic trench.

The Titanic wreck is 3,810m (12,500ft) down.

Ocean Investigation-232

Built in Auckland in 1884, the steam tug Awhina served a long career in Albany, notably supporting the 1914 ANZAC fleet and saving the steamer Castlemoor from fire in 1928. After being stripped for scrap, the vessel was towed to Ledge Bay and burned on April 19, 1936, leaving its boiler and robust timber framing as a permanent fixture of the coastline. The site remains a rare example of 19th-century New Zealand shipbuilding, characterized by the reinforced construction required for heavy-duty maritime towing.

Awhina 1936 Shipwreck, Albany

This 3D model was generated from 266 images taken with an Olympus TG-6 camera and utilising the Agisoft Metashape software at medium resolution. Teh site comprises the remains of what is believed to be a Swansea Bay oyster skiff. At one time, during the mid to late 19Th century, aroudn 200 of these small vernacular-built sailing craft were used to dredge for oysters in the bay. The Oyster Beds had colourful names, such as The Hen and Chickens, Musselly Haul, Itchy Poll, Trashy Ground, Robin’s Patch, Middle Drift and Duck Haul.  When a skiff arrived at one of the hauls, two dredges were thrown overboard, and the boat sailed slowly along, or usually, if there was a light wind, drifted sideways, until the dredges were full.  The catches were landed at the Mumbles for consumption by tourists or transported by train to other UK cities. The wreck corresponds to the common length of these oyster skiffs - 11-12m in length. The remains comprise the keel/keelson and frames to port to starboard.

EN: Replica of a wooden linstock with lead knob at one end and the finely decorated head of a grinning animal (wolf?) on the other. Even more remarkable perhaps is the 16-line Dutch poem on the handle. Based on the original (inv.nr SO1-23222), it was created in the woodworking shop at Museum Batavialand. Original was excavated from shipwreck Scheurrak SO1, a merchant vessel found in the Dutch Wadden Sea near Texel, the Netherlands. Wreck date: 1593.

Een roodbakkend aardewerk, kinderspeelgoed vergietje met 1 oor en vlekkerig geel met bruin (tijger?).
Afkomstig van scheepswrak NL61 van een tjalk dat nabij het huidige Bant in 1951 werd gevonden. Aangetroffen in het wrak werden onder meer een bordje met de spreuk 'In Deze Wereld en Zee is geen rust en vree'. Ook waren er enkele voorwerpen aan boord die wijzen op de aanwezigheid van een kind, zoals een speelgoedschaaltje, een knikker en een kinderschoen. Het schip is rond 1800 vergaan. From shipwreck NL61, a tjalk found near present-day Bant in 1951. Among the items found in the wreck was a sign with the saying “In this world and sea there is no peace and tranquillity”. There were also several objects on board that indicate the presence of a child, such as a toy bowl, a marble and a child's shoe. The ship sank around 1800.

This 3D model was generated from 148 images taken by an Olympus TG-6 camera utilising Agisoft Metashape software at medium resolution. The site is another small sailing craft, believed to be one of the many Swansea Bay oyster skiffs that were prevalent in the bay in the mid-to-late 19th century. This was when the oster fishery at the Mumbles was at its height with around 200 small vernacular-built sailing vessels being used to dredge for oysters in Swansea Bay. The length of these craft was around 11-12m, which corresponds with the length of the keel observed at the site. The craft is laid over in its port side, and with framing and planking likley to survive on that side, buried in the sediment. Over the 3-year monitoring period, the sediment cover was observed to vary only slightly, but with larger changes seen in the cover of bladderwrack and other seaweeds, corresponding with peak growing seasons.

The plane crash landed on the icelandic beach in 1973, because one of the pilotes used the wrong fuel switch, and they were out of fuel on the way from the USA to Europe. The plane was not recovered, most of parts have been taken by the locals and tourists.
