The Mach 5 (Japanese: マッハ号 Mahha-gō) is an automotive machine incomparable to any other on the racing circuit. It’s unique aerodynamic design, coupled with its special devices, makes this car the leader of a pack of little more than second-rate contenders. The Mach 5 is a unique car. With manual gears (as of The Secret Engine) and a top speed of ~250 mph (as of Speed Racer on Super NES) making this a capable machine. The Mach 5 is an open roof design with 2 seats, a trunk, and no radio. In Episode 2, “The Great Plan,” and again in Episode 26, “The Car Hater,” an overview of the Mach 5’s control panel - narrated by Speed in the dub and Pops in the original - both enlightens and reminds us of the beauty of this truly remarkable machine.
