Remus Lupin is introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts professor at Hogwarts. Quiet, intelligent, and compassionate, he quickly becomes one of Harry’s most trusted mentors and the most beloved teacher the students have ever had. Despite his gentle nature and deep wisdom, Lupin carries a painful secret: he is a werewolf, bitten as a child, which causes him to live with constant prejudice and isolation. Because of this stigma he struggles to find work and often lives in poverty, yet he remains humble, patient, and fiercely moral. Lupin was also a member of the Marauders and later fought bravely in the Order of the Phoenix against Voldemort. He eventually married Nymphadora Tonks and had a son, Teddy. During the Battle of Hogwarts, Lupin died fighting the Death Eaters, killed by Antonin Dolohov. His life is remembered as one of quiet courage, kindness, and sacrifice.
