This seated statue (MAHS-THA-COL-072-O-0005) is from the Jai Heng Kiang Shrine Collection, associated with the religious practices of the Chinese-Hokkien community in Sai Buri. The figure is characterized by a round, plump face and abdomen and is dressed in a Chinese-style robe with large sleeves and a round collar. The hairstyle includes a diadem-like headpiece. According to oral tradition, the statue represents Mazu, the goddess of the sea and navigation revered by overseas Chinese seafarers and later adopted in Thai belief as Mae Ya Nang Ruea, a protective spirit of boats and other vehicles. The statue was reportedly brought from the original shrine in the Wat Lieb area.
