St Mary's KK: Cross slab fragment
License & Attribution
Description
Top end of a cross slab likely dating to the 13th/14th century with fleur-de-lis terminals and a chamfered centre of the cross. There are claw toolmarks visible which are unlikely to be part of the original design, imho, but are more likely to have been added to prepare the stone for reuse indicated by the remains of partly painted plaster that is still visible.
The fragment is part of the collection at St Mary's Church (now a museum with changing names) in Kilkenny. It is lying flat on the ground, but I have oriented it upright here, even though it was likely originally a floor slab.
I haven't been able to find it on the HEV because of the density of red dots at St Mary's Church.
Made in KiriEngine from 65 images.
