A wooden coffin face coated in a layer of pigment, primarily in a dark brown tone. The features are heavily stylised, most notably the eyes, which are rendered with stark white sclerae and large black pupils that dominate the expression. The atypical style and execution of the ocular details suggest that the eyes may have been repainted in modern times, possibly to enhance the piece for the nineteenth or early twentieth century antiquities market. There is significant mechanical damage to the nose, where the wood and pigment have been abraded. The reverse side of the timber previously had a modern modification: two metal eye hooks screwed into the wood, connected by a length of twisted wire to allow the mask to be hung for display. This has since been removed from the object. It dates to the Third Intermediate Period (c. 1069–715 BC).
