Ammonite

Description

Ammonites were marine cephalopod mollusks with coiled shells that lived during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods (201–66 million years ago). They are common index fossils, featuring complex, spiral shells with intricate suture lines, used by scientists to date rock layers. Often mistaken for coiled snakes, they became extinct alongside dinosaurs. Model created in RealityScan from 2 images. Additional processing in Geomagic Wrap. This work is part of the collaboration agreement between Global Digital Heritage and the Museum of Archaeology, Paleontology, and Science (MAPS). We thank the museum staff at MAPS for their collaboration and efforts.
