Description
Pangri Zampa Monastery (MAHS-BHU-TMP-PZM-S-001-F-0001) stands on the west bank of the Thimphu River, north of Thimphu, and dates from the early 16th century. Now Bhutan’s Royal College of Astrology, the complex forms a large quadrangle with dormitories, classrooms, administrative buildings, and two temple structures. It is closely associated with Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, whose arrival is linked to the raven/Mahakala vision. The monastery remains important for Buddhist worship, astrology, and selecting auspicious dates for national events.
