Description
The Castle of Santa Cecilia in Guanajuato is an iconic hotel designed in a medieval castle style, built on the site of the former San Francisco Javier ore-processing hacienda (1686). Inaugurated as a hotel in 1951–1952 after being acquired by Manuel Quezada Brandy, it incorporates real mining ruins and stands out for its architecture, history, and legends. It has also served as a filming location and hosted numerous celebrities.
History
* Origin (17th Century): The land was part of the San Francisco Javier ore-processing hacienda, established in 1686 to process metals from nearby mines.
* Transformation: The area, including an abandoned mine shaft, was acquired by Don Manuel Quezada Brandy, who built the current hotel in a medieval castle style, inaugurating it on May 17, 1951.
