Description
A World War 2 auxiliary water pumping station at the end of the L-shaped pier by the Anchor & Hope pub, Charlton, London.
These pumping stations were used to pump water from the river into the mains water supply to provide extra supply when putting out fires in nearby areas such as the docks. This is one of the last to survive.
In front of the pumping station can be seen a small wooden boat wreck. (https://citizan.org.uk/interactive-coastal-map/1737/)
263 photos taken in August 2022 with a Sony a7R III and 326 photos taken with a DJI Air 2S. Processed in Reality Capture. Underside of pier slightly repainted where no photos could be taken.
A huge thank you to Brian Roberts (The Drone Detective: https://www.thedronedetective.co.uk/) for gaining all the required permissions to fly a drone here and undertook all the aerial photography.
Location identified using the excellent book, The Thames At War by Gustav Milne.
