A wooden face, carved from a single block of timber, which originally formed the central facial feature of an anthropoid coffin lid. The visage is characterised by a deep red ochre pigment used for the skin tone. The facial features are detailed with precision: the eyebrows and the elongated cosmetic lines of the eyes are rendered in a striking blue pigment. The eyes themselves consist of a white sclera and a prominent black pupil, creating a lifelike gaze. On the reverse, two substantial wooden dowels remain, which were used to secure the face into the larger assembly of the coffin's head section. A prominent vertical tenon or support extends from the top of the head, indicating how the piece was integrated into the structural framework of the wig or headdress.
