Description
This 3D model was generated from 147 images taken with an Olympus TG-6 camera utilising Agisoft Metashape software at medium resolution. The site is believed to be one of the once common Swansea Bay oyster skiffs - a small vernacular-built sailing vessel using for dredging oysters within the bay. The Mumbles oyster fishery was at its height in the mid 19th century and at one time had some 200 of these small craft engaged in the fishing and employed over 500 men. The oysters were consumed by tourists at the Mumbles and/or transported by train to outlets in London and other UK cities. Swansea Bay Oyster skiffs commonly had a length of keel of between 11-12m, which corresponds to the length of this small wreck. The remains comprise the keel, keelson and lower frames on the port side. More remains are hidden by the dense coverage of bladderwrack seaweed.
