Below Bratislavský hrad, on the wooded castle hill of Bratislava, stands a Baroque sandstone statue that corresponds to the iconographic type of “Ecce Homo.” It depicts Christ after the flagellation, at the moment when he is presented to the crowd. He wears a crown of thorns, a loosely draped robe, and holds his hands bound in front of his body. His posture is calm and composed, his slightly lowered gaze conveying quiet dignity and a composed endurance of suffering. The figure stands on a tall, simple stone column with a base, clearly distinguishing it from the surrounding park grounds. The traces of weather and time have visibly marked the surface of the sandstone, lending the depiction additional poignancy. Set amid the trees and with a sweeping view over the city, the monument appears both secluded and present, inviting quiet contemplation and devotion.
