The artifact is characterized by a flat oval outer frame with a closed edge. Inside this frame is an openwork structure of bars and ornaments. The bars run symmetrically along a central axis and form curved, partly heart- or loop-shaped openings. Its original function was to produce sparks using flint and thus light fires. It is evident that such fire strikers or fire irons were indispensable to people prior to the invention of matches in their day-to-day lives.
