This bust depicts Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino, one of Romania’s most influential political figures of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known as “Nababul” for his immense wealth and social standing. Sculpted in 1906 by Vasile Chiriachide, the work exemplifies the refined academic realism characteristic of Romanian sculpture from the period. Cantacuzino is portrayed in a richly detailed military‑style ceremonial uniform, complete with medals, decorations, and a sash that emphasizes his status and authority. His posture is upright and dignified, projecting confidence and gravitas. The sculptor pays particular attention to the facial features—strong cheekbones, a pronounced mustache, and a composed, forward‑looking gaze—capturing both the personality and the public image of the statesman. Today, the statue is preserved and displayed at Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni.
