Description
This model was generated from 151 images taken with Go Pro Hero 9 using the Agisoft Software at low resolution. The site is situated at Maltraeth Sands, Anglesey, and is believed to tbe the bow section of the Athena, a 369gt wooden brig built in 1840. At time of loss on 20 December 1852, the vessel was reported to belong to Candia (Heraklion, Crete). The master was Capt. George H. Colscundi. The ATHENA was bound from Alexandria in Egypt to Liverpool, and was freighted by Cassvotti, Brothers & Co., with 3000 Ardoles New Sardi beans. Part of the cargo was saved, in damaged state, along with sails and other materials. The Llanddwyn lifeboat saved the 12 members of the crew. The brig had broken up by Christmas Eve. Local people were employed in gathering up the cargo of beans, which has spread along the coast, into heaps ready to be taken away by cart.
