Abandoned Farm House

The siege of Port Hudson (May 22 – July 9, 1863) was the final engagement in the Union campaign to recapture the Mississippi River in the American Civil War. While Union General Ulysses Grant was besieging Vicksburg upriver, General Nathaniel Banks was ordered to capture the lower Mississippi Confederate stronghold of Port Hudson, Louisiana, then to go to Grant's aid. When his assault failed, Banks settled into a 48-day siege, the longest in US military history up to that point. A second attack also failed, and it was only after the fall of Vicksburg that the Confederate commander, General Franklin Gardner, surrendered the port. The Union gained control of the river and navigation from the Gulf of Mexico through the Deep South and to the river's upper reaches.

The coffin factory was owned and operated by Ben Johnson. They made wooden coffins and crafted the embordered coffin interiors in this building for 40 years. These coffins supplied the chain of Winnfield Funeral Homes and others. This abandoned inductrial building is located on North Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

This was the home of John Gideon Lewis his wife Virgina Thompson Lewis and their children, Beatrice, Clara, Ruth, Anderson Scott, Lambert, Beulah, John Jr., and Vinita. Lewis Sr. was a well-known civic leader, serving on many African American-led organizations including a caucus of the colored members of the General Assembly of the State of Louisiana, the Attucks Guards, and Grand Master of the Prince Hall Masons. Lewis Sr. also taught at First Public in Natchitoches in 1876.

The church was organized in 1867 by Rev. W. M. Moody, T. Landen, S. Johnson and others. Rev. A. R. Blount was the first pastor and served for 39 years. The church was erected in the current location in 1938 as a wooden structure. The current building was constructed in May 24,1953 and the annex was added in 1995. This building in located on Amulet St. in Natchitoches, Louisiana.

Lady of Knight Cemetery

The Catanese Store was started in the 1920's as a dry goods store. Slowly over the years it transitioned to adding hardware, housewares, and eventually adding food including a meat counter. The store was owned and operated by the Catanese family until its closure in 2006. This building is located on North Street in Natchitoches, Louisiana. Thoracic vertebra from a dolphin skeleton salvaged while conducting archeological fieldwork in Belize. Using comparitive skull anatomy I have determined that is is a common bottlenose dolphin (*Tursiops truncatus*). **Bird’s Foot Delta — Mississippi River**

This model represents the Bird’s Foot Delta of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, USA. The delta is characterized by long, narrow distributary channels extending into the Gulf of Mexico, forming a shape that resembles a bird’s foot. The landscape forms as river sediments are transported downstream and deposited where the river meets the ocean, gradually building new land over time.

The terrain model was generated from a 1-meter resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) obtained from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and distributed by OpenTopography.

This handmade concrete grave marker is located in the Jackson Square Cemetery in Natchitoches, Louisiana. This maker was made by the Wade Monument Company to memorialize Izora Nicholas. The marker reads Izora Nicholas Our Beloved Mother 1886-1951Age 65 Aleep In Jesus. 
The gravestone was scanned using an Artec Leo Scanner and processed using the Artec Studio 18 program.
