300,000 to 600,000 YA. The Homo erectus skull Peking Man is also known as Pithecanthropus pekinensis (Sinanthropus). The gray coloration indicates areas that were sculpted based on the original fragments. This scan was made as a collaborative effort between The Ohio State University [Department of Anthropology](https://anthropology.osu.edu/), the [Office of Distance Education and eLearning](https://odee.osu.edu/), and the [Department of Art](https://art.osu.edu/).

Captured with a Canon EOS camera array and processed/edited in Agisoft Photoscan.

This scan was produced in 2017 the 3D scanning lab, created and run by Andrew Frueh, in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.

Tyrannosaurus rex Stan skeleton

Skull of a wild bobcat, Lynx rufus, provided to WitmerLab by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The skull was µCT-scanned with a voxel size of 90 µm at the OUµCT facility and accessioned into the Ohio University Vertebrate Collections as OUVC 9576. The STL was generated by WitmerLab PhD student Don Cerio using Avizo. The Ohio class of nuclear-powered submarines includes the United States Navy's 14 ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs) and its four cruise missile submarines (SSGNs). Each displacing 18,750 tons submerged, the Ohio-class boats are the largest submarines ever built for the U.S. Navy.

Model is quite low poly becouse of it’s game asset orgins.

This model is of the armored ankylosaurian ornithischian dinosaur *Euoplocephalus tutus* (AMNH FR 5405). The specimen was CT scanned at OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, Ohio, in 2005 as part of a research project, leading to publications in 2008 (http://bit.ly/2pp5V5C) and 2011 (http://bit.ly/2rCNCsT). This Sketchfab model was generated by Ryan Ridgely of WitmerLab and is derived from recent work done for the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for a new interactive exhibit. This research was funded in part by U.S. National Science Foundation grants to Witmer and Ridgely, and by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Euoplocephalus - armored dinosaur skull

Skull and neck of an adult green iguana (_Iguana iguana_, OUVC 10677), with annotations of some of the more obscure anatomical features. It was collected legally and euthanized humanely by Zoo Miami staff and provided to us for research and education. We scanned the head region on the OUµCT scanner in 2012 at a resolution of 90µm (0.090 mm). Scan data were imported into workstations running Avizo and digitally extracted the bones and soft tissues. The work on this project was done primarily by Alexandra Spaw, who at the time was an undergraduate student in Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College and now is a medical student at Ohio State University. Ryan Ridgely assembled these materials in Maya for upload here. For more 3D content on this specimen, check out the Visible Interactive Iguana site: http://bit.ly/1LzIU6x. There you’ll find 3D PDFs for download that provide comparable content to what’s here, but allowing the user more control. This model can be downloaded here as an STL.

Green Iguana skull - OUVC 10677

This model accompanies the Visible Interactive Pachycephalosaur website on the WitmerLab at Ohio University site: http://bit.ly/2ekqtpO. The specimen is the skull of the pachycephalosaurian dinosaur Stegoceras validum (UALVP 2), collected from the Dinosaur Park Formation of Alberta, Canada, and housed at the University of Alberta. Our team published on this specimen in 2014 in an article by Jason Bourke, Ruger Porter, Ryan Ridgely, Tyler Lyson, Emma Schachner, Phil Bell, and Lawrence Witmer (http://bit.ly/1p5x0Ip). This research was funded in part by U.S. National Science Foundation grants to Witmer and Ridgely.

Object: The Collins Monument
Location: Ohio River Valley

**Historical Significance:**
This towering 19th-century pedestal, bearing the family name "COLLINS," is a classic example of Victorian-era funerary architecture. Monuments of this scale and expense were almost exclusively designed to serve as a base for a large crowning statue, such as a draped urn, an angel, or a symbolic figure.

**Preservation Status & The Lost Statue:**
This "Digital Twin" documents a severe loss of historical context. While the heavy limestone pedestal has survived, the crowning artwork has been completely sheared off by kinetic impact or decades of freeze-thaw fracturing. Only jagged, unidentifiable stone anchors remain on the top plinth. Without early photographic records, the original identity of the statue is a permanent mystery. This archive preserves the surviving family name and architectural geometry before the remaining stone succumbs to advanced biological weathering.

This model of the human skull slowly "explodes" to reveal the structure of the component bones, much like an animated version of the classic physical  Beauchêne preparation of an exploded skull. This model is the first in a series of human skull models on Sketchfab that will annotate various features as an aid to learning human skull anatomy. We launch it now to mark the WitmerLab Sketchfab site having reached 10,000 followers. This skull specimen (OUVC 10503) was CT scanned at OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital in Athens, OH, under funding from NSF. It was previously published in 2008: http://bit.ly/2LLot8M.
