This model shows the external anatomy of the human heart.  The annotations reflect general features of the heart, with 3D models on coronary vasculature of the heart soon to come.


The model was created from scratch in ZBrush as part of my MSc Medical Art course at the University of Dundee.  It is part of a educational resource project to aid students' learning in the vasculature of the heart, where a 3D printed model has also been created to be used as a comparison for Dundee University's Thiel Cadaver Facility, where the hearts can become quite flat during embalming. 


The project is in collaboration with Mr. Luke Reid, Lecturer in Human Anatomy at the University of Dundee, who confirmed anatomical accuracy of the model. Credit also goes to 3D4medical as my main source of reference and inspiration.

St Giles-without-Cripplegate Church in the Barbican, London showing the interior, rooms under the church and a cutaway of the exterior and tower.

This is a beautiful church sitting in the middle of the post war Barbican estate with parts dating to the 15th Century. The Cripplegate name comes from the nearby (and long vanished) Roman gateway into the City of London.

St Giles Cripplegate

One naturally preserved watch tower of Great Wall in Hebei province, China.

By the name "Inner Great Wall", this section was built in the 14th century, it's the last defence line to keep the nomadic tribes out.

Energy Station [Street Assets Vol. 03]

A traditional hut of the Luo people. A typical homestead consisted of several huts, including one for the husband and separate huts for each wife or adult sons.

This specific hut is large and spacious, of a grandeur typically only enjoyed by the first wife of an established family. That said, individual taste, style, availability of material, and general economic means resulted in great diversity among the greater Luo community as regards the small details. Still, this hut can be seen as the most archetypal appearance, with differences in size or trim keeping to the same general design. Round huts like this one can still be seen at museums or cultural heritage sites across Kenya, and square-walled versions of similar design are common to this day in rural areas of the Luo Nyanza region.

Luo First Wife's Hut (East Africa) - Medium Poly

Skull and neck of an adult green iguana (_Iguana iguana_, OUVC 10677), with annotations of some of the more obscure anatomical features. It was collected legally and euthanized humanely by Zoo Miami staff and provided to us for research and education. We scanned the head region on the OUµCT scanner in 2012 at a resolution of 90µm (0.090 mm). Scan data were imported into workstations running Avizo and digitally extracted the bones and soft tissues. The work on this project was done primarily by Alexandra Spaw, who at the time was an undergraduate student in Ohio University's Honors Tutorial College and now is a medical student at Ohio State University. Ryan Ridgely assembled these materials in Maya for upload here. For more 3D content on this specimen, check out the Visible Interactive Iguana site: http://bit.ly/1LzIU6x. There you’ll find 3D PDFs for download that provide comparable content to what’s here, but allowing the user more control. This model can be downloaded here as an STL.

Vyborg Clock Tower city block in Old Town

Here's my entry for the [InteriorScanChallenge](https://blog.sketchfab.com/sketchfab-3d-scanning-challenge-interiors/)

This is the Blue Room (Le Salon Bleu) which is located in the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature in Paris. To learn more about this room, follow the annotations.

Besides the paintings, the room had some interesting details like dry thistle on the seats to elegantly tell the visitors not to sit. Or the stuffed fox sleeping on an armchair.

The scan was reconstructed with Agisoft Photoscan from 200+ photos. I had to cleanup quite a lot the scan to get a decent result.

Blue Room - Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature

When digging a Roman site one of the most common finds archaeologists make is broken Roman pot.  This model depicts a potter in ancient Rome using a wheel to make a jar.  Click on the numbered annotations to find out more - do you think the Romans invented the wheel for making pots?

This model would work well as part of a Roman environment in a game engine such as Unreal - gltf download will work well.

Yes, this was a hell of a scan... it look me 10-15 minutes to walk the entire street. Shootout to @polycam app (@cpheinrich), that handled the capture from the beginning to the end of this 560 ft long scan (170 m.)!

Clarion Alley is a small street in SF between Mission and Valencia Streets, notable for its world [renowned murals](https://clarionalleymuralproject.org/). To me it's the Street Arts Mecca, and it tell so much about the history of SF past decades, its mystical bohemian tradition, the challenges faced by its communities, and much more.

Day 35: Scanning Clarion Alley Street Art

This collection of models depicts a scene from a medieval fayre and would work well as part of a medieval environment in a game engine such as Unreal.  Select gltf at download. Import as a static mesh and tick the 'combine mesh' button to load the whole scene as a single mesh (or untick this button to use each element separately).  I have tested the model in UE5.1 and it works well.  You are free to use this model in any way.

Model made using Plasticity and Zbrush.  Uvs added in Rizom Uv and colour/texture added in Substance Painter.

Open Source Buddha

I made this model after seeing Dani Wootton's excellent '5 Fascinating Finds' video on the Time Team channel https://youtu.be/m-Z1uM9DMRI

This model illustrates Dani's description of how Roman pottery was mass produced using a mould with decorations pressed into the mould surface.  Click on the annotations on the model for more information.

In researching this model I visited the British Museum in London to get a closer look at the 'punches' that were used to create the decorative indentations in the mould surface.  I felt sure the surface of the punch must be curved to follow the contour of the mould but wasn't sure if the curve was more pronounced so that the punch would be rocked back and forwards when being pressed into the clay.  The example I saw at the British Museum (Ancient Rome room - display case 26 - see below) showed a punch with a figure on it and a slight convex curve which I think would have matched the surface of the mould.

Skull of a young alligator (Alligator mississippiensis, OUVC 10389) with annotations of some of the blood vessels. It was legally provided to us by the Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge for research and education. We scanned the head region on the OUµCT scanner at a resolution of 90µm (0.090 mm). Scan data were imported into workstations running Avizo and digitally extracted the bones and soft tissues. This specimen was used by David Dufeau during his dissertation research and then was used by Ruger Porter during his dissertation research on dinosaur blood vessels and their role in thermal physiology. This specimen was part of the sample included in the PLOS ONE article by Dufeau and Witmer (http://bit.ly/2dWhTNZ) and a Journal of Anatomy article by Porter, Sedlmayr, & Witmer (http://bit.ly/2e0WqVg). The original CT scan data can be downloaded on Dryad (http://bit.ly/2ebdnZS), along with a 3D PDF that provides comparable content to what’s here but allows more control. The model can be downloaded  here as an FBX.

In 1915, this former fountain was erected to celebrate an enormous feat of engineering in the city of Baltimore: the redirection of the Jones Falls stream from the middle of downtown to underground via concrete pipes. View the annotations in the model to discover more!

Prolactin (Prl)
Prl-producing cells are mainly concentrated in the rostral pars distalis (RPD). In teleosts, prolactin is especially important for osmoregulation and other physiological processes. In this model, Prl cells are shown in orange.

**How to interact:** rotate by dragging, zoom with the mouse wheel, and click on the annotations to explore specific anatomical regions and hormonal cell populations.

**Methods (summary):** anatomical segmentation was guided by histology and immunohistochemistry for Prl, Gh, Acth/Pomc, Tsh, Fsh, Lh, Sl, and α-Msh. The 3D reconstruction was developed in Blender and exported in glTF format for web visualization.

Prolactin (Prl)

This portion of Rock 6 at Luine demonstates the huge timespan of the tradition of rock engraving in Valcamonica.  There are the faint lines of Epipaleolithic animal carvings; these heavily overlain by possibly Neolithic/Bronze Age cup marks & occasional rings, and 1st Century BC alphabetic inscriptions, Roman age numerals and finally, a possibly Christian era cross (refer to the annotations on the model).  This represents nearly 9000 years of human creative activity on and around this site.

Valcamonica, Luine - Rock 6 (4)

To me, a really great thing about Valcamonica rock art is that there is a chronology - it is dateable.  The styles of the figures can be fitted in to defined periods.  An immense amount of research over many years has gone into achieving this. Importantly, a huge volume of detailed, patient analyses of superimpositions has confidently revealed the relative chronologies of the different typology groups of the human figures & their associated weaponry can give reasonably certain absolute dates by comparison with firmly dated examples from excavation sites. 

Here I noted three distinctive figures of differing types, close to each other on Rock 24.  On the annotations I have given my own assessment of their typologies & given a date for each figure - which I accept, may be incorrect.  It is great fun & very rewarding trying to do this and building knowledge & experience in the process (well, if like me you like that sort of thing!).
