This is a 3D animation ("Shelly") of a near-adult loggerhead (ID=982.000406129037) sea turtle (*Caretta caretta*, straight carapace length=86 cm) that was initially captured on June 23, 2017 by the Inwater Research Group, and then photgraphed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras.  Photographer Christine Shepard operated the cameras and the sea turtle was released that same day in good condition.  The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin  used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements.

The sea turtle was released soon after in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Model 50A - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

This is a 3D animation ("Scallywag") of a juvenile green sea turtle (ID=CM1648) (*Chelonia mydas*) that was captured on December 23, 2016 by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center at Blowing Rocks Preserve.  The turtle was attacked by a shark, but survived.  It was photographed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras by Christine Shepard.

The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  Animator Jer Bot used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. This is an animation of an subadult Atlantic Sturgeon.

This 3D model is a composite of images from a subadult Atlantic Sturgeon  (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus) housed at the Maymont Nature Center (https://maymont.org/animals/nature-center/), and a scan from a preserved Atlantic Sturgeon from the Natural History Collection at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/nhc/home).

CG artists Jer Bot, Johnson Martin and Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full fish from these scans and images, as well as animate the movements. Model 66A - Atlantic Sturgeon

This is an animation of a juvenile (straight minimum carapace length = 75.1 mm, mass = 72.8 g, age=20 days) Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) that was reconstructed from photos and measurements from a live individual. The turtle was collected by Jeanette Wyneken (Florida Atlantic University) for her research on leatherback ecology and development, and the model was created in collaboration with the Upwell Non-Profit (https://www.upwell.org/).  CG artist Johnson Martin reconstructed the turtle using Blender software.

Model 74A - Juvenile Leatherback Sea Turtle

The giant isopod (*Bathynomus giganteus*) is a species of aquatic crustacean and a cousin to terrestrial "pill bugs" or "roly polies" that are commonly found under logs. These animals are found in cold waters with a depth between 310 to 2140 meters (1,020–7,020 ft) in the West Atlantic, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. The unusually large size of these isopods has been attributed to an effect called deep-sea gigantism, where invertebrates living in cold deep waters tend to grow larger and have longer lifespans (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_isopod).

Giant Isopod

This is a 3D animation of a subadult Shortfin Mako Shark (Isurus oxyrinchus). This is a composite shark model that was reconstructed using a combination of photographs and video from Joe Romeiro, and also referenced against a 3D photogrammetry scan of a subadult Mako shark (provided by Joshua Moyer).

We thank the Atlantic Shark Institute (Jon Dodd) and the Cape Eleuthera Institute (Nathan Robinson and Edd Brooks) for supporting and facilitating creation of the model.  Nathan Robinson is now at Oceanogràfic.

CG artist Robert Gutierrez reconstructed this shark from photographs and other information using the open-access software Blender.  As this model was recreated from photos and other data, we make no claim that it perfectly reflects an actual shark, but we have strived to be as anatomically correct as possible.

She was sunk on her 202nd trans-Atlantic crossing, on 7 May 1915, by a German U-boat 11 miles (18 km) off the southern coast of Ireland, killing 1,198 passengers and crew

The sea turtle was released soon after in the Southern United States in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  We digitally scrubbed the ID tag on the shell.

Model 52A - Kemps Ridley Sea Turtle (no ID)

USS IOWA WOWS STYLE, Sketchup, USS Iowa (BB-61) is a retired battleship, the lead ship of her class, and the fourth in the United States Navy to be named after the state of Iowa. Owing to the cancellation of the Montana-class battleships, Iowa is the last lead ship of any class of United States battleships and was the only ship of her class to serve in the Atlantic Ocean during World War II.

Built in 1898 on [Foula](http://tinyurl.com/y6hgdtlb), one of the most remote islands in the Shetland archipelago, this traditional fishing vessel (known in the Shetland as a 'fourareen') was made from pieces of driftwood. 

The crofter who built "Venus" used boat building techniques that had been passed down from generation to genaration and were similar to those used by Vikings on their Longboats.
"Venus" would have been used by the crofter to catch fish and  collect flotsam and jetsam from the sea.

In 1964 it was bought by Paul Earling Johnstone who gave it a deck and tiny cabin and a Bermudan yawl rig, converting it into a yacht. He used it for long distance ocean sailing (including a single-handed trip across the Atlantic in 1965) and it remained in storage in Savannah until 1982, when it became part of the collections of the [Scottish Maritime Museum.](http://www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org/)

This Sea Lion statuette is one of my favorite pieces of decoration from the living room of my family's house in Brittany in France (scanned [here](https://skfb.ly/6RPyx)), which we usually keep somewhere around the fireplace (scanned [there](https://skfb.ly/6TEsv) too 😉).

The statuette is approximately 20cm long, made of very light resin, and painted with a nice chipped wood effect.

Although - quoting Wikipedia here - [eared seals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eared_seal) are conspicuously absent in the north Atlantic, there are a lot of [grey seals](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_seal) in the region: if you ever go to Brittany, I'd recommend making the trip to the natural reserve of the [Sept-Iles archipelago](https://goo.gl/maps/md8EvWvR2hh5P6URA), where you'll have the most chances to see them !

atlantica - nfs III hot pursuit

Eubalaena glacialis, is a baleen whale, one of three right whale species belonging to the genus Eubalaena, all of which were formerly classified as a single species.

I have seen compass-drawn circles in many locations throughout Valcamonica - e.g. Luine, Bedolina, Nadro & Paspardo.  They do not seem to garner very much attention or comment.  Here at Rock 6, there are many compass-drawn circles of hugely varying sizes, and some with multiple concentric rings, all with distinct central holes.   On the same surface are also a number of pecked, cup and ring marks, usually assigned to the late Neolithic/Bronze Ages.  

Whatever the actual date of the compass-drawn circle is, they will have been produced many centuries after the cup & ring marks, yet they take a similar form.  Is there some sort of continuity of meaning in these geometrical forms & is there a connectivity here between this area and that of Atlantic rock art?   This struck me quite strongly the first time I visited this rock at Luine, and the thought has been re-enforced by my observations elsewhere.  It would be significant as the interpretation of cup & ring marks in the Atlantic area is a complete mystery.
