"The Southern District Police Station is a historic police station located at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a monumental Romanesque Revival steel-framed building faced in stone and brick constructed in 1896. The station is composed of a three-story cubic main block, a two-story rear ell, and two additions built in the 1950s that fill most of the remainder of the corner lot. The building remained in use by the Baltimore Police Department until the mid-1980s, when it was sold to a local non-profit group."

"Bayard Station was once the headquarters for the Chesapeake Gas Company of Baltimore City, which merged with several other companies eventually becoming BGE. During the station’s heyday, the gas works spread over 14 acres. The complex included the Valve House; four large telescoping holding tanks, called “gasometers;” and a series of processing buildings, of which one remains today across Hamburg Street. The gas was manufactured, stored in the gasometers, and then piped into the valve house where it was compressed before being directed into the main lines of the city."

Today, this building is home to an architectural salvage company called [Housewerks](https://housewerkssalvage.com/pages/about-us). Since they purchased the building in 2005, they have worked to preserve the structure and have placed it on the National Register of Historic Places.

Bayard Station Valve House

The Tobacco Warehouse on 1103 N. Caroline St. was constructed for leaf tobacco storage circa
1875 by Becker Bros., a Baltimore firm formed by German immigrants.
Over the years the building has been a warehouse for the Baumgarten & Co.
toy manufacturers and stationers’, an upholstery shop, a roller skating
rink, a mattress factory, cabinet makers, a furniture repair shop, and
artist and maker studios.

New development has been proposed by Cross St Partners to convert it into a mixed use space for offices, production, and/or retail space.

Tabacco Warehouse

The seven row houses on 29th Street were designed by the Baltimore architect  John R. Forsythe. They were constructed in 1911 by James Miller and initially sold for $9,500 a piece, according to *A Brief History of Charles Village*. These Edwardian homes have framed Wyman Park Dell for over 111 years. Johns Hopkins University acquired the seven houses over a 20-year period. In 2020, "the university determined that the size and condition of the structures makes rehabilitation infeasible, and it is necessary to proceed with the demolition,” Jill Rosen, director of media relations, said in an email. Currently, Hopkins offers no plan beyond grassy fields for 29th Street once rowhouses are razed.

"Built in 1868, the Sellers Mansion is a three-story Second Empire brick house with a mansard roof that rivaled its outer suburban contemporaries in size, quality of craftsmanship, and attention to detail...Although carefully restored in the 1960s and adapted to a variety of community uses through the early 1990s, the mansion currently stands vacant and in an advanced state of deterioration...The building was included on the 2006 inventory of endangered buildings by Preservation Maryland. With advanced deterioration, work will need to begin soon if the building is to be preserved."

Sellers Mansion

"General Ship Repair maintains the rich ship building tradition so long associated with the South Baltimore neighborhoods of Federal Hill and Locust Point. Charles “Buck” Lynch founded the company in 1924, moved to this location in 1929, lost the company to bankruptcy during the Great Depression and managed to buy it back at auction. Today, the fourth generation of the Lynch family operates the company at one of the last remaining industrial sites along Key Highway.
General Ship has repaired a variety of vessels through the years, including schooners, steamships, paddle wheelers, and supertankers. Workers perform maintenance work on ships in dry docks at this site in addition to sending crews out to other facilities. As of 2020 the facility, which includes a 17,300 square foot shed and two 1000-ton floating docks, repairs mostly workboats."

Designed by New York architect Kenneth MacKenzie Murchison (1872–1938), it was constructed in 1911 in the Beaux-Arts style of architecture for the Pennsylvania Railroad. It is located at 1515 N. Charles Street...Penn Station is the eighth busiest rail station in the United States."

Penn Station

"The Bromo Seltzer Arts Tower, originally The Emerson Tower, has been a Baltimore landmark since its construction in 1911 and was the tallest building in Baltimore at the time. This historic structure...was modeled after the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy.  The tower was designed by Joseph Evans Sperry and built by Captain Isaac Emerson...The most interesting feature is the still-functioning tower clock, the face of which displays the word BROMO-SELTZER instead of numbers. Designed by Seth Thomas in 1911, it was the largest four-dial gravity-driven non-chiming clock in the world...The original tower was topped by a 51-foot revolving replica of the blue Bromo-Seltzer bottle, which was illuminated with 596 lights and could be seen 20 miles away. Due to structural concerns, the bottle was removed in 1936."

Bromo Seltzer Tower

The Frank G. Schenuit Rubber Co. factory was located at 1750-60 Union Avenue in Baltimore. Built in the 1840s as a cotton mill, from 1925 to the late 60s, the building was used to manufacture tires. Sadly, it is currently being demolished with plans for a self-storage facility to be built in its place. I will miss seeing the iconic smokestack during my commute to work each day!

Schenuit Rubber Co. factory

This is all that remains today of the old Baltimore Traction Company cable car powerhouse on Druid Hill Ave. It was built to help transport passengers from "...Druid Hill Park to Patterson Park in 1891 using underground steel cables (similar to the system still operating in San Francisco today). The cables were powered by steam engines in nearby warehouses."

Baltimore Traction Co.

Mount Clare is a five-part Georgian Palladian plantation house located at Carroll Park in Baltimore. It was built in 1754 and is the oldest standing structure in the city. Currently, the house operates as a museum and is undergoing reinterpretation by a [commission appointed in 2021](https://www.baltmccpc.com/) to study the enslaved, indentured and imprisoned laborers who lived and worked at Mount Clare and a nearby ironworks.

Mount Clare Museum House

My biggest 3D scan to date! Located in downtown Baltimore, this sewage pumping station is perhaps the most beautiful public works building in the city.

"Designed by architect Henry Brauns and completed in 1912, the Eastern Avenue Pumping Station was the architectural crown jewel in the city’s ambitious plan to provide its citizens with modern-day sanitary sewage system. Baltimore’s topography dictated the location, essentially allowing gravity to transport wastewater created in downtown directly to the station...Today’s wastewater is pumped using modern electric pumps to its final destination at the Back River Wastewater Treatment Plan approximately six miles east of the station."

Eastern Avenue Sewage Pumping Station

"The Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse was the second screwpile lighthouse built by the U.S. Lighthouse Service. It was originally located 15 miles southeast of this location. The 47-foot-high, round, screwpile lighthouse was completed by the Baltimore "ironfounders" firm of Murray and Hazelhurst in 1856 at a cost of more than $30,000. It was a construction of rolled-iron plates, drilled and riveted together and supported on nine cast-iron screwpiles. The screwpiles eliminated the need for an underwater masonry foundation. 

The light at Seven Foot Knoll marked the outer entrance to Baltimore's busy harbor and was manned until 1948, when the Coast Guard automated it. In 1988, the lighthouse was officially retired and with the help of a barge and 460-ton crane, moved to Pier 5 in Baltimore's Inner Harbor..."

Seven Foot Knoll Lighthouse

One of my favorite places in Baltimore! It was designed by George A. Frederick (1842–1924) and is located in Druid Hill Park. 

"Established in 1888 as the Druid Hill Conservatory, the Howard P. Rawlings Conservatory has grown from the original Palm House and Orchid Room to include three greenhouses, two display pavilions and outdoor gardens...The Conservatory is the second-oldest steel framed-and-glass building still in use in the United States."

Walters family grave

An updated 3D scan of Old Waverly Town Hall restoration in Baltimore, MD. It was built in 1873 to serve as a public hall for the Waverly community. The city plans on restoring the building to its original 19th-century design. There has been a lot of progress since the last time I scanned it about three months ago. Some noticeable changes include the extension of the windows to their original length, restoration of the cornices, removal of fire escapes, repaired roof, and interior construction.

"The Enoch Pratt Free Library is one of the oldest free public library systems in the United States...On January 21, 1882, Baltimore businessman Enoch Pratt offered a gift to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore: a Central library, four branch libraries, and an endowment of $1,058,333.00. 'My library,' Mr. Pratt is attributed to have said, 'shall be for all, rich and poor without distinction of race or color, who, when properly accredited, can take out the books if they will handle them carefully and return them.'"

Today, there are over 20 branches across the city of Baltimore, including several mobile libraries. Built in 1916, Branch No. 18 is located in the Clifton community. While normally open, the library is currently closed for building maintenance.

The Fallsway Fountain

I fell in love with this mysterious structure the first time I saw it! In the late 19th century, it housed large wheels that helped channel water from the Lake Montebello reservoir to the surrounding city of Baltimore. Today, it is risks getting torn down and [efforts to preserve the building are ongoing](https://www.preservationmaryland.org/valve-house/). 

"The Lake Clifton Valve House, or Gate House, is a massive octagonal stone structure. Large Romanesque archways alternate with Gothic style windows which once contained stained glass. Remnants of the colorful glass patterns may still be seen in the turret, atop an intricate tile roof supported by a complicated system of iron trusses."

Baltimore City

USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) is a guided missile destroyer and the lead ship of the Zumwalt class. The class has a low radar profile; an integrated power system, which can send electricity to the electric drive motors or weapons, which may someday include a railgun or free-electron lasers. On 7 December 2015, Zumwalt began her sea trial preparatory to joining the Pacific Fleet. The ship was commissioned in Baltimore on 15 October 2016 and is homeported in San Diego.
