Steamboat Willie - Animated

The Gislinge boat was a 12th Century CE working boat found near the village of Gislinge, Denmark, in 1993. Dendrochronological dating puts its date of construction at around 1130 CE. It was probably used for fishing and goods transportation, and by the signs of wear and tear must have been 50 years old by the time it sank. This reconstruction is based off the Gislinge Boat Open Source Project by the Roskilde Viking Ship Museum (@vikingshipmuseum) , which can be accessed here: https://www.vikingeskibsmuseet.dk/en/professions/boatyard/building-projects/gislingeboat-2016

The project included the construction of various different experimental replicas based on the original find, and the publishing of all the plans so that other people around the world could build their own replica! A Victorian wooden row boat, designed and made for a University project, the Infinite runner, set in Victorian London. This piece is part of a larger sewer environment setting and serves as the player character. Modelled in 3DS max and textured in Substance Painter. Budget for this project was 7k tris.

The "Legends of Valhalla" challenge at Stylized Station inspired me to create this scene with a Viking ship. After modeling the boat I created stylized materials and props to bring the ship to life while trying to find an appealing lighting composition.

Modelling ship is a always challenging for me I am not good at creading lowerbody of ship but I think I made a good job at this ship after =)

Fisher boat

The Herculaneum boat was found during excavation work on the ancient shoreline of Herculaneum in 1982. It was found inverted on the shoreline, with the fore of the boat having been stoved in by other timber and debris from the eruption and completely destroyed. The hot pyroclastic flows that hit herculaneum carbonized the other 2/3rds of the boat and buried it, preserving it to this day. The vessel is 8.6 m long, 2.2 m wide, and about 85 cm deep. It was preserved up to the oarlocks, and most of the sternpost was preserved. After removing the boat from the shoreline, it sat in storage for awhile until a method was designer of flipping it over and excavating the inside. The boat is now on display at Herculaneum, along with other nautical equipment found on the shore including oars and a rudder fragment from other boats (but used here). The boat is yet to be fully published, the main resource for this reconstruction was an unpublished 2005 paper by Richard Steffy: https://tinyurl.com/mr2nzm7x
