Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, which in 2008 became the tallest human structure ever built. His final height, reached on January 17, 2009, is 828 meters. It forms the heart of a new district: Downtoxn Dubai. The inauguration and partial opening took place on January 4, 2010.

The Flatiron Building, originally the Fuller Building is a triangular 22-story 285-foot-tall (86.9 m) steel-framed landmarked building located at 175 Fifth Avenue in the eponymous Flatiron District neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan, New York City. Designed by Daniel Burnham and Frederick Dinkelberg, it was one of the tallest buildings in the city upon its 1902 completion, at 20 floors high and one of only two "skyscrapers" north of 14th Street – the other being the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company Tower, one block east.

"The Southern District Police Station is a historic police station located at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It is a monumental Romanesque Revival steel-framed building faced in stone and brick constructed in 1896. The station is composed of a three-story cubic main block, a two-story rear ell, and two additions built in the 1950s that fill most of the remainder of the corner lot. The building remained in use by the Baltimore Police Department until the mid-1980s, when it was sold to a local non-profit group."

Rhyolite is a ghost town in Nye County, in the U.S. state of Nevada. It is in the Bullfrog Hills, about 120 miles (190 km) northwest of Las Vegas, near the eastern edge of Death Valley. The town began in early 1905 as one of several mining camps that sprang up after a prospecting discovery in the surrounding hills. During an ensuing gold rush, thousands of gold-seekers, developers, miners and service providers flocked to the Bullfrog Mining District. Ellora is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the largest rock-cut monastery-temple cave complexes in the world, featuring Hindu, Buddhist and Jain monuments, and artwork, dating from the 600–1000 CE period.Cave 16, in particular, features the largest single monolithic rock excavation in the world, the Kailasha temple, a chariot shaped monument dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kailasha temple excavation also features sculptures depicting the gods, goddesses and mythologies found in Vaishnavism, Shaktism as well as relief panels summarizing the two major Hindu Epics.

This helmet was most likely made in the 1610s in the district of Norrmalm, Stockholm. 
The helmet is very similar to those made for King Gustav II Adolf and helmets worn at jousting tournaments at the time.

The helmet weighs 5.086 grams (≈ 11.2 lb) and would have provided the wearer with adequate protection. 

Worth noting is that the helmet features the same basic shape as other closed 16th century helmets on display in the museum.

This 2-piece visor consists of a visor and an upper bevor.

The Lion of Aspern is a war memorial created by Anton Dominik Fernkorn, which was erected in 1858 at Asperner Heldenplatz (today a district of Vienna). The sculpture is made of sandstone and commemorates the Austrian soldiers who died in the battle of Aspern.

Fernkorn created a larger-than-life sculpture of a lying, dying lion on a stone base with an oak leaf garland on a stone foundation. Between the front paws is a Napoleonic eagle, under the body an emperor's cloak, and on the left side of the body are field signs. The lion is pierced by a lance whose tip protrudes behind the left shoulder blade of the animal below the mane.

The Louvre or the Louvre Museum is a national art museum in Paris, France. It is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement (district or ward) and home to some of the most canonical works of Western art, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. Herod the Great built palaces for himself on the mountain and fortified Masada between 37 and 31 BCE. According to Josephus, the siege of Masada by troops of the Roman Empire at the end of the First Jewish–Roman War ended in the mass suicide of 960 people, the Sicarii rebels and their families hiding there.

This week, I’ll be concentrating on the many different districts of San Fransisco, CA.


This incredible house was captured in the Mission district of San Francisco, at the intersection of York St. and 25th. This entire neighborhood is filled with Murals left and right. Some on people's garage doors, some on the entire side of the building, and in this case, the entire house. 

This mural was done by a group called Precita Eyes Muralists, directed by Max Marttila and Fred Alvarado in collaboration with the Urban Youth Arts Program. 


Make sure you sound is turned out, the audio of the space really puts things into context.

#5 - "Take it From the Top: Latin Rock" House

After the opening of the Prater in 1766, people settled on the edge of the Prater. In 1862 an elementary school was opened. The principal attached an image of the Virgin Mary to a large tree in 1863 because the nearest church was far away. Franz Plankenbüchler was an innkeeper and ran a restaurant at Freudenauer Dammhafen. Franz, a deeply religious man, often crossed himself before the image of the Virgin Mary during his walks. In 1911, he decided to erect a statue of the Virgin Mary in a good spot nearby. This was the beginning of today's place of pilgrimage, which also includes a church (Maria Grün) since 1924.

The presented device is one of the few surviving emergency telephones on the factory premises, which used to be on the equipment of every industrial facility. The massive telephone, weighing over 20 kg, was manufactured after World War II as a miner's telephone at the Zakłady Wytwórcze Urządzeń Sygnalizacyjnych (ZWUS) in Katowice-Wełnowiec. Originally, this type of telephone was intended for communication in methane mines and in rooms with a high risk of explosion. Its cast-iron construction, which is resistant to mechanical damage.
