Dove Bird Rigged

This feminine figure, with many jewels, holds a flower in her right hand and a bird, dove or pigeon, in her left hand. These motifs bring her closer to the bearers of offering, like the neighboring sculpture. The turreted crown, a motif from the Middle East, covered with a veil, however, designates it as a deity, Aphrodite, cult very developed on the island of Cyprus.

The Gascony blue has as its ancestor the rock pigeon , but it is very close in its plumage and its conformation to the woodpigeon and even more to the stock dove .

Though there are inscriptions dating to the 1160s, the main church was built in 1215 under the auspices of the brothers Zakare and Ivane (of the Zakarid-Mkhargrzeli family), the generals of Queen Tamar of Georgia, who took back most of Armenia from the Turks. The southern facade of the Katoghike has a portal with fine carvings. The tympanum is decorated with a representation of trees with pomegranates hanging from their branches, and of leaves intertwining with grapes. The pictures of doves are placed between the arch and the outside frame; the doves’ heads are turned to the axis of the portal. Actualmente el edificio se conserva en ruinas. Aunque bastante deterioradas, restan en pie las cuatro paredes que revelan una estructura de planta cuadrada realizada en mampostería. Se construye en tres alturas. En las dos superiores hay una distribución regular de vanos de forma cuadrada, que proporcionan la ventilación necesaria para secar el papel en la última etapa del trabajo. La planta inferior consta de tres vanos de acceso en su fachada principal. Los laterales son sencillos vanos rectangulares, mientras que el central es un vano en forma de arco de medio punto adovelado. Sobre la clave del arco figura la fecha de fundación de la fábrica -1793- grabada en una loseta ornamental. A su vez, en la segunda planta y sobre el vano de acceso, en lugar de localizarse el vano de iluminación que correspondería, hay una hornacina destinada a la colocación de una imagen religiosa. En la fachada posterior encontramos un vano secundario de acceso realizado en forma de arco carpanel.

of 1892 by Sir Arthur Blomfield. Sandstone, mainly ashlar; C12 work is
finely coursed and dressed; red-tiled roof to nave and chancel and lead
flat roofs to aisles behind parapets. Tower (with spire), nave, aisles set
eastwards, well down line of nave, and chancel.

Norman era motte and bailey castles  on the Derbyshire side of the River Dove. The site is a Scheduled Monument and this drone survey is part of the regular condition survey of the site carried out by the Peak District National Park Cultural Heritage Team, for whom I volunteer.

The font is one of the outstanding works of the Herefordshire school of sculpture with a mixture of local and
French and Italian elements.

Font St Marys Rolleston on Dove

Zoomorphic effigy vessel in the form of a bird, with the head modeled in relief and the wings indicated on each side by grooved channels. The bird may represent a dove or a duck. The object is a miniature jar with a globular body and a slightly divergent neck.  Due to its size, it may have functioned as a toy.
