Here's a visualization of global winds and precipitations on September 1st, 2019 (when [Hurricane Dorian](https://tinyurl.com/y3jewqqt) was hovering over the Bahamas, off the coast of Florida).

* Created in Python (using Matplotlib, NetCDF4, Scipy and Numpy modules)
* Public wind and precipitation data from the [NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis](https://tinyurl.com/y6mfqr6f)
* Wind particles colored according to speed (using Matplotlib "inferno" colormap)
* Rain particles scattered according to the precipitation rate

The seamless-loop effect was achieved by periodically spawning the particles at their initial location on a time range greater than the animation, and subsampling this time range before export. This effect was further enhanced by fading each particle's color to black at their birth and death, and using the "Additive" opacity in Sketchfab material settings to hide black points.

A Windy Day

This is a 3D animation ("Shelly") of a near-adult loggerhead (ID=982.000406129037) sea turtle (*Caretta caretta*, straight carapace length=86 cm) that was initially captured on June 23, 2017 by the Inwater Research Group, and then photgraphed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras.  Photographer Christine Shepard operated the cameras and the sea turtle was released that same day in good condition.  The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin  used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements.

Model 47A - Loggerhead Sea Turtle

This is an animation (“Mar”) of a hatchling Hawksbill (ID Ei1801) sea turtle (*Eretmochelys imbricata*, straight carapace length 11.8 cm) that was initially rescued by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center, and then photographed with the Beastcam technology with 30 Canon G16 cameras. The sea turtle was released soon after in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Model 50A - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

This is a 3D animation ("Scallywag") of a juvenile green sea turtle (ID=CM1648) (*Chelonia mydas*) that was captured on December 23, 2016 by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center at Blowing Rocks Preserve.  The turtle was attacked by a shark, but survived.  It was photographed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras by Christine Shepard.

The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  Animator Jer Bot used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Model 46A - Subadult Green Sea Turtle

La Motilla del Azuer (Daimiel, Spain) is a Bronze Age fortified enclosure built of stone and defended by an outer wall and several intermediate walls. Dating between 2200 and 1500 BC, these walls protect the oldest and most well documented motilla in the Iberian Peninsula. Additionally this site exhibits an impressive funnel-shaped well that is more than 20 meters deep allowing it to reach the aquifer.

Some of the data for this project were originally collected as a joint effort between researchers at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and CVAST at the University of South Florida (USF) under the legal permission of Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (Expte. 16.0834-P1. Sistema de documentación 3D del Patrimonio Cultural de Castilla-La Mancha). Data were provided by UCLM and FBK and are now being re-analyzed and re-processed by Global Digital Heritage (GDH).

This is an animation of a juvenile (straight minimum carapace length = 75.1 mm, mass = 72.8 g, age=20 days) Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) that was reconstructed from photos and measurements from a live individual. The turtle was collected by Jeanette Wyneken (Florida Atlantic University) for her research on leatherback ecology and development, and the model was created in collaboration with the Upwell Non-Profit (https://www.upwell.org/).  CG artist Johnson Martin reconstructed the turtle using Blender software.

This is a 3D model (“Tumbleweed”) of a juvenile Kemps Ridley Sea Turtle (ID 132) (*Lepidochelys kempii*) that was initially rescued by the New England Aquarium in Massachusetts, and then photographed with the Beastcam technology with 30 Canon G16 cameras. The sea turtle was released soon after in the Southern United States in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  We digitally scrubbed the ID tag on the shell.

Animator Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Connie Merigo from the New England Aquarium each provided feedback on the movements.

I'll add some textures if life permits... The big ass Gator is because I'm from Florida and gators our state mascot. We love/hate em.. 

(Obviously they don't get THIS BIG but oddly part of everyone wishes they did.. It'd be almost a real live dragon... a "water dragon" if you will.) :3

Animals Of The Land

This is an feeding animation of a subadult male Manta Ray (“Skye” Mobula c.f. birostris, disk width of 2.5 m) that was reconstructed from a combination of drone, gopro, and other video imagery and morphometric data.  Note the twisting of the cephalic fins, which are used during feeding. Skye was filmed primarily while swimming off the coast of Palm beach, Florida.  Jessica Pate and her team with the Marine Megafauna Foundation (www.marinemegafauna.org) were instrumental for filming Skye and providing access to other data on Manta Rays.  The ANGARI Foundation (www.angari.org) and Angela Rosenberg coordinated and supported this research.  Jonathan Bayuk and Ken Morton kindly donated funding to enable this research.  CG artist Johnson Martin used the data provided to reconstruct and animate the model.

Model 84A - Manta Ray Feeding

The common snapping turtle (*Chelydra serpentina*) is a large freshwater turtle of the family Chelydridae. Its natural range extends from southeastern Canada, southwest to the edge of the Rocky Mountains, as far east as Nova Scotia and Florida. This turtle species is noted for its combative disposition when out of the water with its powerful beak-like jaws, and highly mobile head and neck (hence the specific name *serpentina*, meaning "snake-like"). In water, they are likely to flee and hide themselves underwater in sediment.

Model 84B - Manta Ray Swimming

This model shows one of two prison cells of the town of Picón (Ciudad Real, Spain). Its construction dates from the 16th century, and it is one of the few examples that are preserved in the La Mancha region.

This model was created from 17 scans from a FARO Focus X330 laser scanner. These data were aligned and exported in FARO SCENE and the meshing and final processing was in Meshlab.

The data for this project were collected in 2017 as a joint effort between the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and CVAST at the University of South Florida (USF) under the legal permission of Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (Expte. 16.0834-P1. Prison Interior (B) Picón (Ciudad Real, Spain)

This is a 3D animation of a young male Anolis garmani lizard.  The 3D model was created through integrating three data sets - a 3D photogrametry scan of a preserved male A. garmani (Univ. Florida, uf:herp:122009 specimen ID), a CT scan of a young male Anolis garmani (Morphosource, Anolis sp., P1059), and open-access photographs, as well as from Jon Suh and Janson Jones.

We thank Dave Blackburn, Ed Stanley, and Coleman Sheehy from the University of Florida for providing access to the specimen, and Illiam Jackson and Tobias Uller for enabling the CT Scans.  Nathalie Feiner faciliated the CT scan and provided feedback.  Jonathan Losos guided the project and provided funding for completion. Titanoboa is a genus of extinct giant boid snake that lived during the middle and late Paleocene epoch. Titanoboa was first discovered in the early 2000s by members of the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, which–along with students from the University of Florida–recovered 186 fossils of Titanoboa from the Cerrejón coal mines in the La Guajira department of northeastern Colombia. It was named and described in 2009 as Titanoboa cerrejonensis, and lauded as the largest snake ever found at that time. The original type material consisted of thoracic vertebrae and ribs, but later expeditions collected parts of the skull and teeth.

The Bridge of Lions is a double-leaf bascule bridge that spans the Intracoastal Waterway in St. Augustine, Florida, United States. A part of State Road A1A, it connects downtown St. Augustine to Anastasia Island across Matanzas Bay. A pair of copies of the marble Medici lions guard the bridge, begun in 1925 and completed in 1927. They were removed in February 2005 and returned in March 2011.

Capone showed signs of neurosyphilis early in his sentence and became increasingly debilitated before being released after almost eight years of incarceration. In 1947, he died of cardiac arrest after a stroke.
