Monteriggioni is a medieval walled town in central Italy that is located on a natural hillock.  It was built by the Sienese in 1214–19 as a front line in their wars against Florence.

During the conflicts between Siena and Florence in the Middle Ages, the city was strategically placed as a defensive fortification. It also withstood many attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra. In 1554 the Sienese were able to place control of the town's garrison to Giovannino Zeti, who had been exiled from Florence. In 1554, in an act of reconciliation with the Medicis, Zeti simply handed the keys of the town over to the Medicean forces - considered a "great betrayal" by the town's people.

Medieval Sword

Built in 1898 on [Foula](http://tinyurl.com/y6hgdtlb), one of the most remote islands in the Shetland archipelago, this traditional fishing vessel (known in the Shetland as a 'fourareen') was made from pieces of driftwood. 

The crofter who built "Venus" used boat building techniques that had been passed down from generation to genaration and were similar to those used by Vikings on their Longboats.
"Venus" would have been used by the crofter to catch fish and  collect flotsam and jetsam from the sea.

In 1964 it was bought by Paul Earling Johnstone who gave it a deck and tiny cabin and a Bermudan yawl rig, converting it into a yacht. He used it for long distance ocean sailing (including a single-handed trip across the Atlantic in 1965) and it remained in storage in Savannah until 1982, when it became part of the collections of the [Scottish Maritime Museum.](http://www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org/)

For Medieval Fantasy Tavern Challenge 

For this challenge i wanted to create the unique atmosphere of a late autumn, when sun is still hot and bright, sky is dark and cloudy and nature is so bright and full of vibrant warm reddish and yellowish colors

**Some changes i made:** 
-Set up the lights: main source is quite low to get long shadows, additional blueish lightsourse for cold shadows 
-Added soft wide glow to emphasise feel of the hot sun 
-Added subsurface scaterring to the leaves to get bright gradient on shadow 
-Chanded color pallete 
-AO, tone mapping and color correction 
-Other minor effects

Salvatierra Castle is located in the municipality of Calzada de Calatrava (Ciudad Real, Spain). Its period of greatest historical prominence focuses between the battles of Alarcos (1195) and Las Navas de Tolosa (1212), playing a decisive role as a preamble of the latter. Between 1198 and 1211 the Order of Calatrava installed its convent headquarters in this fortress and was consolidated as the Order of Salvatierra. In 1226 it was definitely abandoned when its last Muslim defenders handed it over to Christians in the context of Las Navas pacts. Since 1992, it has been part of the Cultural Interest Assets (BIC) catalog of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha. Despite its advanced state of ruin, it still retains part of the donjon, numerous barrel vaults and large walled spaces that acted as albacar and barbican.

 The Russian Princess Maria Barjatinskaja came to Rome in 1818 with her husband. At his wish, she was modelled by Thorvaldsen. The marble sculpture was created in 1821-25, but was never delivered. After the Princess’s death, her family demanded to have the statue handed over, but instead accepted a copy made by Thorvaldsen’s most important Danish apprentice, the sculptor H. W. Bissen. Today the sculpture is in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow.

The statue of Saint Peter stands at the entrance to the Calvary Church in Kőszeg and dates from the 18th century. It is part of the Baroque tradition of the Stations of the Cross.

The saint is depicted in a humble, kneeling posture. His hands are folded in front of his chest, suggesting prayer or repentance. His gaze is directed slightly upward, as if he were turning to God. He wears a simple, flowing robe that falls in soft folds over his body. Particularly striking are the keys at the base of the statue—a classic symbol of Peter. They represent the “keys to the Kingdom of Heaven,” which, according to Christian tradition, were handed to him by Jesus.

The statue of Saint Veronica stands at the entrance to the Calvary Church in Kőszeg and dates back to the 18th century. It is part of the Baroque tradition of the Way of the Cross.

The saint is depicted as a standing figure with a slightly turned posture. She wears a long, softly flowing robe and a veil over her head. With both hands, she holds an outstretched sweat cloth in front of her body. The face of Christ with a crown of thorns is clearly visible on this cloth – depicted frontally, with long hair and a serious expression. The cloth is carefully modeled and forms the center of the composition.

According to tradition, Veronica handed Jesus a cloth on his way to Golgotha to wipe the sweat and blood from his face. In doing so, his face was miraculously imprinted on the fabric. This so-called Veronica's veil became an important motif in Christian art and is closely associated with depictions of the Way of the Cross.
