In Virgil, Laocoön was a priest of Poseidon who was killed with both his sons after attempting to expose the ruse of the Trojan Horse by striking it with a spear. In Sophocles, on the other hand, he was a priest of Apollo, who should have been celibate but had married.

This particular sculpture was made by the unknown artist and is a copy of the original work. 

3D scanned using photogrammetry in Hans Tausens Park in Copenhagen. Capturing of the scupture was done by 4 people/4 cameras by jointly dancing around the sculpture.

A population of 700 white-tailed deer in Seneca, New York carries a recessive gene for an all-white coat. About 300 of the 700 deer express this gene.

After the death of Ferdinand I (1383), there was a succession war between Ferdinand's daughter Beatrice, queen of Castile and Ferdinand's half brother, John I. The battle of Aljubarrota was the decisive moment which marked the victory of John, the founding of the Aviz dynasty (1385-1580) and the beginning of military alliance between England and Portugal. This alliance is still active today (800 years old) and was used during the second world war.

The battle was also an important mark in the 100 years war. It was one of the many losses the French suffered. A trend that was changed later by Jeanne d'Arc.

An exceptionally valuable monument of sacred goldsmiths from the treasury of the Miechów monastery (Poland), which has survived to our times, is the richly decorated late-gothic silver chalice with a six-leaf foot. It is assumed that it was created around 1500, perhaps in a workshop in Hungary or in the capital city of Krakow. There are precious stones on the base of the chalice: sapphire, amethyst, ruby and emerald. In the upper part of the foot, figures of the Virgin Mary and an unknown saint are visible.

Male raccoons 	are known for their sexual aggression, which means this object may have been a fertility 	symbol. This object was recovered archaeologically from the House for Families at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. After the opening of the Prater in 1766, people settled on the edge of the Prater. In 1862 an elementary school was opened. The principal attached an image of the Virgin Mary to a large tree in 1863 because the nearest church was far away. Franz Plankenbüchler was an innkeeper and ran a restaurant at Freudenauer Dammhafen. Franz, a deeply religious man, often crossed himself before the image of the Virgin Mary during his walks. In 1911, he decided to erect a statue of the Virgin Mary in a good spot nearby. This was the beginning of today's place of pilgrimage, which also includes a church (Maria Grün) since 1924.

The shipwreck of the famed Civil War ironclad USS *Monitor* is located 16 miles off Cape Hatteras, N.C., in 240 feet of water. The *Monitor* is known for its participation in the Battle of Hampton Roads in 1862 when the USS *Monitor* fought the CSS *Virginia* to a stalemate, neither ship able to penetrate the others armor. While the battle may have been a draw, it did signal the end of wooden warships and ushered in a new era of naval warfare with metal hulled ships and rotating gun turrets. The shipwreck of the USS *Monitor* was discovered in 1973, and in 1975 became the nation's first National Marine Sanctuary.
