Stonecarthy Church ruin is a multi-period building with Hiberno-Romanesque door jambs (not in situ) from the western doorway, a more modern southern doorway and later rebuilds.

Stonecarthy Church

Maddoxtown Church ruin not far from Kilkenny along the old road to Bennettsbridge. It's not exactly in a great state. It is a small single-cell church building (no differentiation between chancel and nave), which seems to have been built using earth mortar construction with a lime mortar pointing and rendering. The earth mortar is exposed at the breach in the west gable. Only one window survives in the south wall. The south wall also has a buttress at its west end, the buttress on the north wall seems to have been collapsed, judging from the heap of stones there. The church was already a ruin at the time of the Down Survey (1650s).

There is also a beautifully carved baptismal font of the Ossory type still surviving in the graveyard (repaired). Worth a visit.

Maddoxtown Church

Merlin Castle or Merlin Park Castle is a towerhouse which has recently seen some restoration work (presumably the windows and fireplace).
During the works, a tiny sheela-na-gig was discovered in one of the windows. It was a bit too windy to fly the drone close enough to the window to get an excellent shot, but I have marked it with an annotation.

Galway: Merlin Castle

Clomantagh Church ruin was recently tidied up and the walls repointed thanks to a grant from the Heritage Council, and the difference really shows. The church has a double bellcote at the west gable, a now partly blocked-up doorway in the south wall and a better preserved doorway in the north wall. The east gable features two lancet windows of which most carved stones no longer survive in situ. The south and north walls have two smaller windows each towards the east end of the church. The walls have an unusual amount of quite large putlog holes, some of which are now used by birds as nesting boxes. A few architectural fragments from the church can still be found in the graveyard and adjoining field.

It was quite a windy day, and I wasn't too comfortable with having the drone up too high, so the tops of the gable walls aren't great, but it still gives a general idea of the architecture and state of the building.

Clomantagh Church

The doorway in the south wall of Stonecarthy Church. Carrigan (1905) dates the south wall to centuries before the Norman invasion.
The church must have had a more impressive western doorway, judging from the beautifully carved sandstone door jamb fragments re-built into the walls (mostly west wall) and scattered around the church. Carrigan counted 12 of them, I didn't count them at all.

Stoneycarthy Church: Doorway

Former mensa of a table tomb commemorating Thebald (Theobald) Purcell and his wife Catherine (apparently) of Clone (Clone Castle KK009-045----). I could only make out the "Hic iacet Thebald", the HEV did the rest. It is beautifully carved, once you can see it under all the moss and debris.

There is a side panel somewhere in the graveyard depicting the symbols of the passion and a front (short) panel depicting the crucifixion with Mary and John which we did find, but the scan didn't come out well. The HEV describes them all under the same number, but they are now separated and seemingly scattered over the graveyard and church.

Rathbeagh Church: Thebald Purcell grave slab

Discovery 2 at the second visit: A partial cross slab (bottom part, but used here upside down) dating likely to the 13th or 14th century, judging from the fleur-de-lys motif. Also not recorded by the National Monuments Service (yet). There is no inscription on it, but they tended to be towards the head of the cross which is missing. It might still be in the graveyard somewhere, though.

Ballyellin: partial cross slab

A group of three tether stones used to tether horses drawing barges on the River Barrow. I won't give the exact location, in case anyone gets any ideas of enriching their own collection.
Similar, but smaller tethering stones can apparently be found in farmyards (if they survive). At least that is what the explanation panel said.

Goresbridge: Tether stones

One of four medieval cross slabs surviving in Ballycallan (St Brigid's) Graveyard. It dates to the 13th or 14th century. It is the lower portion of an incised cross, now sticking out of the ground upside down. It does not seem to be tapering and I'd say, it might have been wider once, because it seems unusual to just have one bevelled edge.

Not sure exactly which of the four it is, so I will have to assign the SMR numbers by their location on the HEV map.

Ballycallan: Cross slab fragment

One of four cross slabs described by Carrigan (III, 442) and subsequently the HEV. It is the bottom end of a tapering slab with an incised cross with fleur-de-lys terminals. This is the Westernmost I could see.
I did see the other two as well, but the one which apparently even has an inscription (KK018-072004-) was leaning too far to even scan it, and I could see no incision on the forth (KK018-072007-), so I left it unscanned.

Ballycallan: Cross slab 2

St Aban's Well in Ballymakerry or Baile Mhic Íre in County Cork. It is normally covered by a corrugated sheet to prevent pollution and people from falling in - it's too small for a whole person, but a leg could get trapped.

Ballymakerra: Tobar Abán

A limestone fragment identified by John Bradly as part of a sarcophagus (compare the [nearly intact one at the Black Abbey](https://skfb.ly/pHoWt) with trefoil arches) with two arched niches missing their head and a half quatrefoil on the left. The HEV describes one with ogee headed arches and a quatrefoil on the right, but maybe they mean this one, which is why I'm giving its SMR number below.

Compare also to a [similar fragment at Jerpoint Abbey](https://skfb.ly/pvIpv), and there are similar ones at Gowran Collegiate Church (not yet scanned).

St Mary's: sarcophagus fragment

This is a limestone graveslab embedded in the ground immediately east of the church at Stonecarthy. It is very eroded, but apparently shows the head of a male on top of a four-armed cross with fleur-de-lys terminals. (It is easier to see in Matcap mode.) The HEV doesn't date it, but I'd say 13th or 14th century.

Stoneycarthy: Grave Slab

Ullard Church is a Romanesque church ruin with some later additions like the Gothic east window and piscina. It seems to have had a second floor at the east end as well.
Unfortunately, I had to resize the original images to 40% to end up with a model under 100MB, so the quality suffered a bit from that.

Ullard Church

An early medieval hut circle called "Gobnait's Kitchen", part of the stations walked by pilgrims. It is apparently built with earth mortar construction.

Ballyvourney: Gobnait's Kitchen

A fragment of a cloister column from the mostly demolished Augustinian Priory at Aghmacart, County Laois. There is a full column surviving on site, but it was too heavy for me to lift, and another fragment which might be the complementary piece to this one. They are 0.37m wide and 0.65m tall (which is not tall at all). There is some resemblance to one of the cloister column types at Inistioge Priory.

Aghmacart: Cloister column fragment

The ground floor room of Dysart Castle near Thomastown. It is a bit weird to look at, because it is the interior, so just zoom in, until you're inside and rotate around from there. Presumably, the room was used for storage. Note the drawbar slots in the doorways.

Bishop George Berkeley grew up in the house that once was built against this castle.

Dysart Castle: interior ground floor

Kilmalog Church (or what is left and visible of it) at Purcellsinch Industrial Estate in Kilkenny. Someone has planted lots of either hawthorn or spindle trees on the North side which made access and flying at low levels nearly impossible, hence the bad quality. The one little window gives a glimpse at the craftsmanship that was once at display here in this very small church, more of a chapel, really.

Purcellsinch: Kilmalog Church

A piscina at Youghall Collegiate Church dated to c.1220. The information sign inside explains the use of the two drains and the powers of the slit in the middle.

Youghal: Collegiate Church piscina

The west part, especially the west gable of this church with its antae, the straight door lintel with the "Maltese" cross above and the granite ashlars, date back to the 10th or 11th century before the invasion of the Normans. The original size of the church can still be seen by where the roof ended. The east gable was turned into a chancel screen and the church extended east by the chancel with a new east window. The side chapel was also added later. There are some old monuments within the church, some which can be found in the collection "[Clonamery KK](https://sketchfab.com/b-unicycling/collections/clonamery-kk-c4cc5067347d450696d9c1e142a7bb3d)". The church is National Monument no. 77.

Clonamery Church

Graveslab of Patrick Purcell's son "de Lismeane" (i.e. Lismaine) in the Graveyard of Rathbeagh Church. It can be found East of the Church and has some nice interwoven designs on it. The sun was shining just right to make it easier tor read. 
The son's name either starts with a K or a T so, more likely T, bc K is probably for "Katherine". Apparently, he had a son called Peter (acc. to Carrigan). Must check the Ormond Deeds to see if I find a candidate.

Rathbeagh Churchyard: Graveslab Patricii Purcell

A voussoir or arch stone lying in the graveyard of Clomantagh Church in County Kilkenny. The Historic Environment Viewer says "Following a clean-up of the graveyard in the 1990s a large number of cut stones were uncovered. Some were kept within the graveyard while others were placed in the adjoining field." Presumably, this is one of them.

Clomantagh Church: voussoir

Another one of the many monuments built into the screen wall at St Mary's Church in Kilkenny (now museum). There is nothing to see at first glance, especially in unfavourable light, but it is an inscription in Roman capitals, read by Carrigan (1905, III, 101; line breaks added by me) as:

St Mary's Church: Archer Memorial

I know, I know, it's a pretty bad model, but there is a good reason: There were four horses in the fields adjoining the graveyard, and horses are apparently terrified of the sound of drones, so I could not fly the drone and had to just walk around. Bearing that in mind, there are still some interesting things to see: The church received a grant last year, so they removed all the biological colonisation (ivy etc) and then continued repointing walls. The interior, especially the chancel area, is still a bit messy. Hopefully I will be able to return with the drone one day.

This church has two ogham stones built into it (see separate scans). The east gable has two antae, the piscina has been robbed out, and the east window has some nice diagonal striations (i.e. toolmarks). There are three corbels in the interior south wall indicating that there might have been a loft.
