"AR kuratiert Körperteile, Köpfe und Dinge zu einem Stillleben – und stellt die Frage was im Sammeln zu Wissen wird, was Fiktion bleibt."

Das Projekt transformiert die fragmentarisch überlieferte Wunderkammer des Stifts Göttweig mithilfe von KI in eine zeitgenössische digitale Form. Initiiert von Markus Wintersberger (USTP St. Pölten) und Viola Rühse (UWK) entstehen digitale Neukreationen ausgewählter Objekte. Die von Abt Gottfried Bessel im 18. Jahrhundert geschaffene Sammlung wird nicht restauriert, sondern als Raum des Staunens neu interpretiert und als aktuelles Experiment bedeutet.

GöttwAIg – Inventar des Unvollständigen

A complete, exceptionally well-preserved "knobby" or "knobbed" macehead (Buckelkeulenkopf) carved from a single piece of dense, mottled stone. Typologically, the object features a rounded, bulbous body that tapers downwards into a distinct, short cylindrical neck or collar. Radiating symmetrically from the upper portion of the body are four prominent, low-relief rounded knobs or bosses. It is drilled cleanly through its central vertical axis with a straight, circular shaft hole designed to mount the weapon onto a wooden handle. The stone displays a naturally weathered, pecked, and smoothed texture with minor surface pitting. 

This macehead is an incredibly rare survivor dating to the Naqada IIB phase (c. 3500–3400). Knobby maceheads of this specific pharaonic form are virtually non-existent in secure Egyptian archaeological contexts. Its closest local parallel is a  steatite example housed in the Petrie Museum (UC15407). Additionally, a fragmentary example was found in Tomb 26 at Hierakonpolis in 2006.

Pipe bowl (NHMW-ZOO-MO-0081100-ETH-051a)

The cherub heads on the balustrade of the Nepomuk Chapel in Mauerbach are sculpted decorative elements mounted on a spherical base, featuring several angel heads arranged in a circle, each with childlike facial features and stylized hair. This so-called putto or cherubim depiction is typical of the Baroque style and symbolizes the heavenly sphere as well as the depicted saint’s closeness to the divine. The spherical form on which the heads are arranged reinforces the impression of a cloud-like mass, a motif frequently used in Baroque art to represent the heavens. As part of the balustrade, these finials simultaneously mark the boundary between the secular exterior and the sacred interior of the chapel, thereby contributing both to the decorative design and to the symbolic significance of the structure.
