3D scan of a mount of a shoebill (*Balaeniceps rex*), that can stand up to 1.2 meters. Its name refers to the enormous beak that resembles a shoe. In Southern Sudan *B. rex* inhabits swamps and lakeshores where papyrus and reeds grow. This material is used to build their nests. This specimen of the rare African bird comes from the Bahr el Ghazal estuary in Sudan and was donated to the NHM Vienna in 1913. 

The Shoebill is Number 76 of the NHM Top 100 and can be found in Hall 30 of the NHM Vienna.

Located in the [Huelgoat forest](https://goo.gl/maps/uJw11Zwyqr22), the sibling of the legendary Brocéliande forest, this site (called the "Boar Pond") was a safe haven for the animals which populated the forest.

It is even rumored that gold flakes can be found at the bottom of the pond - explaining its orange color - leaking from King Arthur's treasure, which Merlin the Enchanter is said to have hidden nearby...

Although the scanning process went quite fine, I was not really glad of the reconstruction result due to constantly changing lighting conditions... But I compensated by trying to recreate a satisfying water surface with Sketchfab's materials and effects, and actually ended up quite happy with the final model !

I wanted to make a scene with my goldfish assets.  (Both Ryukin and Broadtail Moor are downloadable)
I ended up spending more time making the system for the aquatic plant behaviour and script to generate marbles on the ground.

Modeling, textureing, rigging, animation done in Blender.  (Texturing for original assets done in Substance Painter)
Fins and plants are animated with cloth simulation.
Water surface done with dynamic paint.

Hi everyone, I wanted to create a nature scene of a lakeside, as we could find in scotland for instance. I was certainly far too ambitious and I'm not totally satisfied because this is a very large scene and many details should have been added for a more realistic render.

Grassy Mountains with Lakes

Made from 321 photos in 3DF Zephyr.

I decided to make this model out of a passion for popcorn. Only the best 100% handmade popcorn was used to make this prop for scanning. And a dozens of grams of hot glue.

Only the top layer is glued. Bottom layers are sealed with a cardboard cover. The bowl is a bit transparent and now you can see that there's popcorn insde.

The bowl itself was also prepared for scanning - it was painted for better reconstruction. It didn't help very much though. Popcorn appeared very well after tweaking the photoconsistency parameters but bowl always had bumpy and uneven surface. It took a lot of work to separately patch/smooth/retopology only the bowl. Every action could shrink or distort the bowl.

There're still places between popcorn and bowl with bad geometry but you can cover it with separate model of [popcorn flake](https://skfb.ly/6UwV9)
