This 3D skull model was created by laser scanning the Museum's iconic *Diplodocus carnegii* cast.

Dippy was the first *Diplodocus* (DIP-low-DOCK-us) to go on display anywhere in the world when it was gifted to the Museum in 1905. It quickly became a star, capturing hearts and imaginations.
Dippy then left the Museum in 2017 to complete a whirlwind tour of the UK. The skeleton will be on display at the Museum from 27 May until 2 January 2023.

To mark this event, we have prepared a set of 3D printable files which can be downloaded and printed on a conventional desktop 3D printer and assembled to create a three-quarter scale model of the skull, or a model which can be compiled from laser cut sections of cardboard.

Dippy skull

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 is a variable-geometry fighter aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau in the Soviet Union. It is a third-generation jet fighter, the world's most-produced variable-geometry aircraft, along with similar Soviet fighters such as the Su-15 "Flagon". It was the first Soviet fighter to field a look-down/shoot-down radar and one of the first to be armed with beyond visual range missiles. Production started in 1970 and reached large numbers with over 5,000 aircraft built. Today the MiG-23 remains in limited service with some export customers.

The basic design was also used as the basis for the Mikoyan MiG-27, a dedicated ground-attack variant. Among many minor changes, the MiG-27 replaced the MiG-23's nose-mounted radar system with an optical panel holding a laser designator and a TV camera.

This is an animation of an adult female **Great Hammerhead Shark** (Sphyrna mokarran) that was reconstructed from multiple cameras arranged around a dive in South Bimini, Bahamas in February 2020.  Casey Sapp coordinated all videography.  Kevin Davidson kindly contributed useful reference photos.

CG artist **Jer Bot** used the software Blender to align these camera views to reconstruct the accurate shape and color of **Nemesis** (PIT tag 900236000107365), which had an estimated length of 329 cm based on laser photogrammetry.  Nemesis commonly frequents dive spots near Bimini and is well-known to divers and scientists from the Bimini shark lab (www.biminisharklab.com).

The **ANGARI Foundation** (www.angari.org) coordinated and supported this research, along with Sean Williams, Ken Morton, Jonathan and Jameson Bayuk, Annabelle Brooks, and Vital Heim.

Medieval church located inside the impressive Fortress of Calatrava La Nueva in Aldea del Rey (Ciudad Real, Spain). The castle/convent of Calatrava La Nueva was built in the 13th century to serve as the seat of the powerful Order of Calatrava and today it is one of the most important castles in Spain. Inside, a large 3-nave church was built in an artistic style that mixes elements of Romanesque, Gothic and influences of Islamic art. This mixture of styles, but also of constructive and decorative techniques, make the church of Calatrava La Nueva a unique place.

We want to publicly thank the collaboration of the Castilla-La Mancha regional government, Aldea del Rey City Council, and the archaeologist Ana Segovia Fernández, for the assistance and faciliation they have given provided.

Medieval Church, Calatrava la Nueva, Spain

Consuegra Castle is a fortress of Islamic origin located in the town of Consuegra, the ancient Roman city
of Consabura. It passed into Christian hands around the year 1090, but
after the battle of Consuegra it was recovered by Islamic troops.
In the 12th century it was finally conquered by Christian troops. For
its better defense, King Alfonso VIII donated the castle in 1183 to
the Military Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, which made it its main
fortress in the region. During the Peninsular War (1808–1814) it was
occupied by French troops who partially destroyed it in their retreat.

Currently the castle is owned by the Consuegra City Council, being one
of the most visited monuments in Castilla-La Mancha.

Castle of Consuegra (Toledo, Spain)

This is an articulated Mountain lion skeleton, built from laser scan data of our modern osteology collection at the Idaho Musuem of Natural history. It was digitzed one bone at a time and assembled in ZBrush.

The archaeological ensemble of Melque is one of the most important historical sites of the High Middle Ages in Spain. It is located in the municipality of San Martín de Montalbán, just 30 kilometers from the city of Toledo. It consists of a very well preserved church, a monastery, several dams and a fence or wall. However, there is no consensus among experts about the date of its foundation. Some authors date it in the seventh century, in Visigothic times, while others consider that it was founded in the eighth century by Mozarabs, that is to say by Christians but under Muslim domination. The place was inhabited for centuries which has allowed the preservation of the church in an excellent state to this day.

Documented by Global Digital Heritage in September of 2018 using 1110 drone images, 112 terrestrial laser scans, and 1702 terrestrial photogrammetry images. These data were processed in Reality Capture.

The laser light of the HX can easily and accurately scan even reflective and dark surfaces, making it a good choice for scanning car surfaces, which are often reflective.

Carranque is the site of a 4th century Roman villa that is protected as an archeological park by the Castile-La Mancha government. This villa contains some of the best preserved moasics in Spain. Across the floors of the villa are mosaics depicting the death of Adonis, two dogs named Leander and Titurus, and most recognized,  the god Oceanus, featuring crab antennas and claws and a wavy beard.

Scanned in just 25 minutes with the metrology-grade laser scanner Artec Point, the transmission's fine elements are all captured in this high-res 3D replica. The complex combination of components, from the gear sets to the shifting mechanism, is vividly displayed. 

Despite the transmission's shiny and reflective metallic cast and challenging surface roughness, Artec Point's advanced scanning technology captured all of it. The resulting point cloud was optimized for precision, even with a 0.2mm resolution. For future scans of similarly sized objects, we recommend a resolution of at least 0.4mm to reduce processing time.

El pati del Palau Episcopal. Museu d'Art Girona

This is a laser scan of a Great White Shark jaw which was originally reported as coming from an 11 metre-long (36 feet)  shark, though subsequent analysis by the Museum estimates it at about 7.5 metres (25 feet) –  still a very large fish! 
The specimen demonstrates the incredible rows of spare  teeth that Great Whites have lined up inside their jaw. If a tooth is lost the  next one in line just folds up to take its place.
The specimen was used for public engagement for many years and has suffered as a result. This is a preliminary scan and we will be rescanning it with the aim of 3D printing a high quality replica for outreach.

**Description:** This is a 3D laser surface scan of the nearly complete cranium of *Toxodon platensis*. The skull was purchased on 26 November 1833 by Darwin. It is between 126,000 and 11,700 years old. 

This has been scanned as part of the Museum’s Darwin Fossil Mammals digitisation project. Find out more at www.nhm.ac.uk/darwinsfossils.

**Comments:** This is the holotype specimen of *Toxodon platensis*. When a new species is proposed, a specimen is chosen to represent the species. This is called the type specimen or holotype. Types are important  and it is the responsibility of museums to care for these and make them available for study.

**Sony Robot Challenge - Lucky Cat Chop House**

The Lucky Cat is a blend of the future and current day.  To better build the perception of the peice for the viewers I decided to add some current day style.  Trying to stray away from the overly complicated themes of combat,lasers etc.. :D Rather to build a peice that shows usefulness and practicality.   Inspired by Blade Runner, Cyberpunk type imagery
