Vintage Hand Drill

The horn of Salt Diggers Brotherhood of Wieliczka is a unique Renaissance work of art commemorating the past wealth of Kraków salt mines. It is the only historical object of its kind preserved in Poland – a genuine horn of the aurochs, an ancestor of present-day cattle (the species became extinct in Poland in the 17th century). Framed in silver, it features a number of precisely executed metalwork techniques. Weighing almost 3 kilos, it was created in Kraków in 1534. The figure shown in the horn’s base is a salt miner, depicted as Hercules wearing antique armour. This representation symbolically emphasises the hard work of the Wieliczka salt diggers, excavating the precious mineral for hundreds of years.

**Small Triptych – Deesis **

Small folding altars made in modern and contemporary Russian studios were considered ideal for travelling. They are part of the old tradition of making metal castings, especially cultivated in modern Russia in the circle of the Old Believers (Old Ritualists). This type of metalwork is often treated as a kind of manifestation of the Old Believers’ dissimilarity in connection with the decrees of Tsar Peter I of 1722 and 1723. 

Usually, such triptychs showed the Deesis (traditional representation of Christ in Majesty), reproducing old iconographic patterns.

This bronze fist door knocker is a historic feature of the Contrada della Tartuca (Tortoise district) in Siena. It is most commonly found along the medieval Via di Castelvecchio, located in the city's oldest quarter. Unlike the animal-shaped knockers of other districts, the "Hand of Fatima" or clenched fist is a traditional talisman used to ward off the "evil eye" and bring protection to the household.

In the context of Sienese culture, these decorative elements serve as vital markers of neighborhood identity. As you walk through the UNESCO-listed center, the style of door hardware—from tortoises and panthers to symbolic hands—indicates which of the 17 rival Contrade you are currently in. This specific piece highlights the exceptional skill of local metalworkers who have maintained Siena's unique architectural character for centuries.

Siena - Door Knocker 2: Iron Fist (Scaniverse)

This bronze gnome door knocker is a striking example of the artisanal metalwork found in Siena's Contrada della Selva (Forest district). Located on the historic slopes of Via di Vallepiatta, this "grotesque" figure reflects a Renaissance tradition of blending functional hardware with whimsical, mythological characters. This bronze lion head door knocker is a regal emblem of power and guardianship found in Siena’s northern quarters, particularly within the Contrada della Lupa (She-Wolf district). Located near Via Vallerozzi, this style of metalwork pays homage to Siena’s medieval history, where the lion served as a symbol of the city's republic and military resolve.

While many Sienese knockers represent specific Contrada mascots, the lion is a timeless choice for residents wishing to emphasize nobility and protection. Its intricate, swirling mane and fierce expression are hallmarks of local artisanal casting. As you've seen with the panther, the fist, and the gnome, these functional objects serve as a "street-level" map of the city. In Siena, every door tells a story of neighborhood loyalty, turning a simple walk through the UNESCO-listed streets into a journey through centuries of social and artistic tradition.

Siena - Door Knocker 4: Lion (Scaniverse)

This bronze seashell and lion door knocker is the official emblem of the Noble Contrada del Nicchio (Seashell district) in Siena. It is predominantly found along the historic Via dei Pispini, marking the territory of one of the city’s most ancient neighborhoods. The central shell motif—the "nicchio"—refers to the Pliocene fossils found in the local soil, while the small lion head signifies the district’s "Noble" title, awarded for historic military valor.

In Siena’s complex social landscape, these knockers serve as visible signatures of the 17 Contrade. Residents of the Nicchio district use this shell imagery to show their allegiance to a community traditionally composed of artisans and farmers. Like the other knockers you’ve encountered, this piece is more than decoration; it is a functional fragment of a centuries-old identity, helping visitors navigate the invisible borders of the city through its beautiful, symbolic metalwork.

Saint Eligius (c. 588–660) was a gifted goldsmith who became master of the royal mint under Frankish kings. Known for his honesty and skill, he later became a priest and Bishop of Noyon, working as a missionary in Frankish-Frisian borderlands. He used his wealth to help the poor, free slaves, and build churches. Famous legends include him miraculously healing a horse by removing and reattaching its leg to shoe it—hence his symbols: hammer, anvil, horseshoe, and chalice.
He is the patron saint of goldsmiths, silversmiths, blacksmiths, metalworkers, and farriers.
To reflect women’s growing role in the Church and goldsmithing, artist Bernd Löning reimagined the saint as Saint Eligia, a female version.

This model represents a highly detailed Victorian-style keyhole escutcheon plate. The design features intricate ornamental patterns inspired by classical European metalwork and decorative door hardware. The circular plate surrounds a central keyhole and is embellished with symmetrical floral and gothic-style motifs.

Such escutcheons were commonly used on antique doors, furniture, cabinets, and architectural elements during the Victorian era. The aged bronze appearance highlights the depth of the carved ornamentation and gives the piece an authentic historical character.

The main fuel tank is crafted from heavy brass showcasing a beautiful aged patina with localized tarnish oxidation and subtle dents that tell the story of its historical use in plumbing and metalwork. The model features all essential mechanical components the manual hand pump for pressurizing the tank a detailed control valve with a textured grip and a heavy duty burner nozzle that exhibits realistic soot buildup and heat induced discoloration. This statue represents Vulcan iron replica the Roman god of fire and metalworking. He is shown with a robust physique holding a tool in one hand and resting the other on an anvil.
