Location: Zhou Xian, China.

Age: 680,000-780,000 years B.P.

Material: plaster cast.

Dimensions: length, 214 mm; width, 149 mm; height, 130 mm.

Notes: RLA catalog no. 1979rp44 (cast).  Skull discovered between 1929 and 1936 in a cave near Zhou Xian, and lost during World War II.  Cast is based on descriptions, photographs, sketches, and reconstructions by Davidson Black and Franz Weidenreich.  Formerly classified as Sinanthropus pekinensis and Homo erectus pekinensis.  Cast made by the University Museum of the University of Pennsylvania.  From the teaching collection of the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Homo erectus (Peking Man) (1979rp10-1)-cranium

3D scan of the mounted skin of a female European bison, or Wisent (*Bison bonasus*). The European bison is our continent’s largest land mammal. Before their habitat was destroyed and they were nearly hunted to extinction, the European bison roamed large parts of Europe.

This specimen cannot be found in the exhibition halls of the museum, but a group of European bison is on display in Hall 36 of the NHM Vienna (Number 91 of the NHM Top 100).

European Bison (NHMW-ZOO-MAMM-258/ST797)

This is a 3D animation of a young male Anolis garmani lizard.  The 3D model was created through integrating three data sets - a 3D photogrametry scan of a preserved male A. garmani (Univ. Florida, uf:herp:122009 specimen ID), a CT scan of a young male Anolis garmani (Morphosource, Anolis sp., P1059), and open-access photographs, as well as from Jon Suh and Janson Jones.

We thank Dave Blackburn, Ed Stanley, and Coleman Sheehy from the University of Florida for providing access to the specimen, and Illiam Jackson and Tobias Uller for enabling the CT Scans.  Nathalie Feiner faciliated the CT scan and provided feedback.  Jonathan Losos guided the project and provided funding for completion.  CG artist Johnson Martin created the model using Blender and other software.

Model 83A - Anolis garmani

3D scan of a taxidermized Gharial adult female and juvenile (*Gavialis gangeticus*). These reptiles are domestic to Nepal and India and live in freshwater rivers. Even though their appearance may give another impression, these fish-eaters are no threat to humans.

Both of these Gharials cannot be found in the showrooms of the NHM Vienna, but a gharial pair is shown in Hall 28 of the NHM Vienna. They are Number 70 of the NHM Top 100.
