Embracing peace

"From death comes life" were the final words of this katana's wielder. This katana was used to put an end to unneeded violence and making the world a more peaceful place. But in the end, before the wielders dream was realized, he also fell victim to this unneeded violence.


The katana is infused with a cherry blossom, which stands for a time of renewal.


I made this katana initially because I was watching Demon slayer and got inspired to make my own katana, after starting this project I dropped it pretty soon. But after I started watching One Piece, I felt motivated again and finished this project with a lot more than I initially planned. I first only cared to make the katana but later I found I wanted to make the Saya (cover) and the katana stand as well.


This model is not intended for a game, but could be used in one. If you want to use it in a game, I would recommend baking the Tsuka wrap onto the Tsuka handle (The Tsuka wrap is 25k poly's). This would make the performance a lot better.

My attempt at making something close to OceanGate Titan Submersible, which was tragically lost after it went missing on the 18th June 2023. The US Coast Guard's findings explained that it had imploded and the crew had been instantly killed. The Titan was doomed from the beginning, with unusual practise during its construction and made with crude materials. The Titan was an experimental submersible, and was not officially certified.

The water in reality is much more flat and peaceful. The photogrammetry, in difficult of capture the moving water flow, created this chaotic water surface inside the basin !

The book is quit old and contains a Chinese general's war tactices. Although one could still learn something about war from reading it, it is more and more appreciated as a management book. That is because of the strategic thinking and high level tacitcs that he explains and that could be used in a management context as well. Worth a read? You can get it for free and it's a very classical book so yes.

The object itself didn't take me too long but the texturing...never again do I ad 16 "pages" with a texture on each front and back....But I commited to it so each of the pages has it's unique text that comes from the book. For the chinese characters, I googled some chinese words for "peace" "war" "victory" etc and put them there. I was already told by a way more fluent Mandarin speaking person that those are not appropriate for the time of Sun Tzu so sorry for that but I hope they do their job.

Brandenburg Gate was commissioned by Prussian Emperor Frederick William II, to represent peace at the end of the 18th Century. When Napoleon invaded Berlin in 1806, he sacked the bronze quadriga and took it back to Paris. The origin of firecrackers has a history of more than 2000 years. In ancient China, when there was no gunpowder or paper, people used fire to burn bamboo to make it burst and make a sound, so as to drive out the God of pestilence. Because the burning bamboo made a "crackling" sound, it was called firecracker. This custom reflects the ancient Chinese working people's desire for peace and tranquility.

A bridge spanning the "jasper green pond" in the southern part of the "Garden of Heavenly Peace" in Bethmannpark in Frankfurt am Main.  
430 photos were taken with a Nikon D5000. The model was created in RealityCapture and edited in Blender.  
To save time, photos were taken only from one side of the bridge and this was mirrored afterwards.  
Due to strong weather changes during the photographing and not quite optimal settings of the camera, the quality of the textures did not meet my expectations.
