This 3D skull model was created by laser scanning the Museum's iconic *Diplodocus carnegii* cast.

Dippy was the first *Diplodocus* (DIP-low-DOCK-us) to go on display anywhere in the world when it was gifted to the Museum in 1905. It quickly became a star, capturing hearts and imaginations.
Dippy then left the Museum in 2017 to complete a whirlwind tour of the UK. The skeleton will be on display at the Museum from 27 May until 2 January 2023.

To mark this event, we have prepared a set of 3D printable files which can be downloaded and printed on a conventional desktop 3D printer and assembled to create a three-quarter scale model of the skull, or a model which can be compiled from laser cut sections of cardboard.

Scale model of ancient Rome created by French architect Paul Bigot (1870-1942). He is famous for creating 4 of these plaster models between 1908 and 1942. Only two of them remain. This one is located in the Art and History, Brussels, Belgium. The other one is located in Caen, France.

This model shows the innovative triple dome at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London. This scale model is created from measured plans of the structure and is accurate to the foot. The dome consists of three interlinked structures:

*     **The Inner Dome** – visible from the cathedral interior and purely for show
*     **The Middle Dome** – a brick cone that is invisible from below but supports the 850 ton lantern above
*     **The Outer Dome** – a wood and lead-roofed structure visible from the cathedral exterior

The Inner and Outer Domes are decorative, while the Middle Dome is the true weight-bearing support system.

**Assessment of a Model Marine Hovercraft (ACV-Mk1)**

The ACV-Mk1 is a 1:20 scale model of a marine hovercraft, or Air-Cushion Vehicle (ACV), designed to travel over water, land, and mud by riding on a cushion of air. This reduces friction and enables smooth, amphibious movement across multiple surfaces.

In the maritime industry, hovercraft are used for search and rescue, military transport, coastal patrol, and operations in shallow or flooded areas where conventional vessels cannot operate effectively.

The model demonstrates the core working principle using a lift system, thrust system, and steering mechanism.

Key advantages include amphibious capability, high maneuverability, and access to difficult terrains. However, limitations include high power consumption, reduced performance in rough seas, noise, and skirt maintenance challenges.

# Solar System Model (Orrery)

This is a scale model of our solar system that was made and animated in Blender and textured in Substance Painter.

The Solar System model A.K.A. an Orrery is a device that shows the orbit of each planet around the sun and their relative distance from each other.
Viewing the model, you can see that there is a static pose and two animations. 

The static pose shows each planet lined up in order of distance from the Sun.

Animation 1 shows the Earth completing a full rotation in one minute and shows each planet's relative position after the Earth has orbited the Sun once.
Since animation 1 doesn't show much of the rotations of the planets further from the Sun than Earth, I made a second animation.

Animation 2  shows Neptune completing a full rotation in one minute and shows each planet's relative position after Neptune has orbited the Sun once.
This animation gives a better sense of the scale of planets orbiting the Sun, since all planets complete at least one full orbit.

Solar System Model (Orrery)

Scale Model of a house fit with two floors and fully separated rooms to allow for customizations of the separate rooms. Used for a project that revolved around filling the house with furniture.
