Here's a visualization of global winds and precipitations on September 1st, 2019 (when [Hurricane Dorian](https://tinyurl.com/y3jewqqt) was hovering over the Bahamas, off the coast of Florida).

* Created in Python (using Matplotlib, NetCDF4, Scipy and Numpy modules)
* Public wind and precipitation data from the [NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis](https://tinyurl.com/y6mfqr6f)
* Wind particles colored according to speed (using Matplotlib "inferno" colormap)
* Rain particles scattered according to the precipitation rate

The seamless-loop effect was achieved by periodically spawning the particles at their initial location on a time range greater than the animation, and subsampling this time range before export. This effect was further enhanced by fading each particle's color to black at their birth and death, and using the "Additive" opacity in Sketchfab material settings to hide black points.

A Windy Day

Based on a scan of a replica of the "Mayflower" ship, processed by @spogna and available [here](https://skfb.ly/6u8T6).

Like in the [Mosquito in Amber](https://skfb.ly/6xWCO), most of my attention was spent on normal maps, roughness and refraction settings to try to make this model as realistic as possible.

I actually had to create a secondary internal surface for the bottle, and also relied on clear coat options for the glass material in order to try to give the model a feeling of thickness. 

To try to get the opacity right, I used refraction on the outer layer (normals offset checked), and alpha-blending on the inner one.

All of the modeling was done with Blender, but the critical part for the model aesthetics relies on Sketchfab materials and post-processing.

**Modeling**:

* The scan was first remeshed with [mmgs](mmgtools.org) and baked to a lighter version (11k tris). 
* The amber fragment was roughly sculpted in blender ("I have no clue what I'm doing" style), keeping the main face flat (clay strips + flatten brushes).
* The small fragments inside the amber were done by splitting all the main fragment edges and applying the "shrink/fatten" tool, followed by a random Displace modifier. Exterior fragments were then removed with a boolean modifier.

**Material**:

The important parts are the roughness and normal maps, which are a mix of PBR textures (rougher edges, smoother main face), while the refractivity is just a product of tweaking Sketchfab settings: opacity set to refractive and using the object's roughness.

I used [rapidcompact.com](http://rapidcompact.com) optimize this excellent 3D scan, choosing default settings and a 3mb target filesize.

The ears may not be transparent when imported into blender. If thats the case, go to the materials tab and scroll down until you see 'Settings'. Under settings is Blend Mode. Click the drop down next to Blend Mode (usually says Opaque) and choose **Alpha Clip.** That should be all!!

Brooklyn Street Row Buildings Low Poly

Calibrated lens settings and some quick masking of the sky from all images produced more accurate camera positions.  These two aspects are going into my list of requirements for working with fisheye images. This result is closer to what I was expecting for the camera orientations and path. The biggest problems were from not having adequate overlap of the bins, but I should have expected that from my rule of thumb for camera - subject distance... but that will come with more practise once I bed down the camera orientations.

I wanted to experiment with the camera's limit settings and came up with a little scene to do it

Hopelessness

This is just an experiment with exporting a particle animation to Alembic format (.abc) from Blender.  I created the effect using similar steps as those shown in this tutorial (except I used a cube as the particle so it's lower poly, and I added randomness to the velocity, which I don't like in retrospect): https://youtu.be/k5WH5WY1Osc?si=Y1sfy87AwmzhI96m only up to the point where you start adding a material and adjusting render settings, since that is not necessary for export.

Initially I just selected the emitter and particle and exported them as Alembic with default export settings, and overall it worked remarkably well.  Sketchfab had no issue importing the animation.  Unfortunately though, without any adjustments, the animation's two stages (rising up into the air, then bursting) came out overlapped.  So I went looking for a way to fix that, and found a great Blender addon for baking particle effects by searching Gumroad for scaryplasmon CakeParticles.

In future tests I will remap the texture.

Fireworks Demo - Free Download

Natively modelled and rigged through maya. Don't expect the cleanest rig, rather a bunch of nurbs and bones for some IDLE gimmick. It is intended for mobile gaming / VR apps where things cannot get so fancy in terms of graphics (only diffuse map). Since I'm no sketchfab expert, I leave it free for anyone to use it, but I would like some feedback on how to improve sketchfab settings for showcasing.
