This model shows the external anatomy of the human heart.  The annotations reflect general features of the heart, with 3D models on coronary vasculature of the heart soon to come.


The model was created from scratch in ZBrush as part of my MSc Medical Art course at the University of Dundee.  It is part of a educational resource project to aid students' learning in the vasculature of the heart, where a 3D printed model has also been created to be used as a comparison for Dundee University's Thiel Cadaver Facility, where the hearts can become quite flat during embalming. 


The project is in collaboration with Mr. Luke Reid, Lecturer in Human Anatomy at the University of Dundee, who confirmed anatomical accuracy of the model. Credit also goes to 3D4medical as my main source of reference and inspiration.

*Wiwaxia* had a tiny body covered in overlapping defensive **sclerites**. The hidden, lower surface consisted of a muscular foot and mouthparts for scraping food, like algae, off the sea floor. Wiwixia would have crawled slowly over the sea floor in search of food, as many similar molluscs do today.

Wiwaxia papilio

A model I made for a character modeling course during my studies in Kajaani University of applied sciences. The assignment was to pick a theme and design and create a character fitting it. I decided to go for cyberpunk and here is the result.

If you wan't to use this model in your own projects there is no need to ask for my permission. Originally I made the rig for simple posing so you might need to create a better one for animations etc.

Yunnan Province, China, ~518 million years old.

<i>Vetulicola</i> had a large **body** with triangular **pouches** on either side and a segmented **tail** for swimming. The pouches may be gill slits opening into an internal body chamber, as found in modern tunicates, such as sea squirts and salps. It is thought that <i>Vetulicola</i> fed by drawing water in through the wide frontal opening to internally filter microscopic food particles suspended in water, with waste water expelled through the side pouches.

Namacalathus hermanastes

Yunnan Province, China, ~518 million years old.

*Cotyledion* lived on the sea floor, using **tentacles** to feed on particles suspended in the water. Some individuals have been found attached to small fragment of trilobites. The overall body shape, presence of tentacles surrounding the mouth and U-shaped gut, are characters that unite *Cotyledion* with entoprocts – a modern group of animals that measure less than a centimetre across.

Cotyledion tylodes

This is the Hardy Tree in [St Pancras Old Church](https://goo.gl/9AiihJ), Camden, London, UK ([OSM](https://goo.gl/ydVXeA)). The tree was reportedly planted by the author Thomas Hardy and the roots are embedded in pile of gravestones.

The point cloud is a combination of a RIEGL VZ-400 scan and a ZEB-REVO (to get detail around the gravestones). Scanning done by University College London ([@kungphil](https://twitter.com/kungphil), [@mathiasdisney](https://twitter.com/mathiasdisney), [@UCLgeography](https://twitter.com/UCLgeography)).

Hardy Tree (Camden, UK) and gravestones

This is a 3D animation ("Shelly") of a near-adult loggerhead (ID=982.000406129037) sea turtle (*Caretta caretta*, straight carapace length=86 cm) that was initially captured on June 23, 2017 by the Inwater Research Group, and then photgraphed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras.  Photographer Christine Shepard operated the cameras and the sea turtle was released that same day in good condition.  The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin  used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements.

First time sculpting a character into Zbrush! 

This was a fun university project for sculpture class at Nad school. We were instructed to create a character of our choice and personally I really wanted to try hardsurface so I chose to make a knight.

*I use Mixamo for the idle animation*

The paper explores the concept of letting surgical stuff train in a virtual operating setting.
This is one of several general ORs in the Charité Campus Mitte (CCM), scanned in 2018. Shot with Nikon D3400 (500 images), reconstructed in Metashape, refined in Blender.

Charité University Hospital - Operating Room

This is an animation (“Mar”) of a hatchling Hawksbill (ID Ei1801) sea turtle (*Eretmochelys imbricata*, straight carapace length 11.8 cm) that was initially rescued by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center, and then photographed with the Beastcam technology with 30 Canon G16 cameras. The sea turtle was released soon after in good condition. The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.

Animator Johnson Martin used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center each provided feedback on the movements

Model 50A - Hawksbill Sea Turtle

This is a 3D animation of a large adult Timber rattlesnake (*Crotalus horridus*) from New England Reptile Distributors (https://new-england-reptile.myshopify.com/). 

The raw photogrammetry scan was created using the Beastcam Technology, and the ventral side was added from a different snake.  The full model was retopologized and rigged by animator Daniel Daye from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The 3D model was created with the Beastcam technology.

Model 31A - Timber Rattlesnake

This is a 3D animation ("Scallywag") of a juvenile green sea turtle (ID=CM1648) (*Chelonia mydas*) that was captured on December 23, 2016 by the Loggerhead MarineLife Center at Blowing Rocks Preserve.  The turtle was attacked by a shark, but survived.  It was photographed with the Beastcam technology with 20 Canon G16 cameras by Christine Shepard.

The 3D model was initially created through a photogrammetry scan using Capturing Reality.  Animator Jer Bot used Blender to reconstruct the full sea turtle from these scans, as well as animate the movements. Jeanette Wyneken from Florida Atlantic University, and Charles Mairne from the Loggerhead MarineLife Center provided feedback on the movements.

Cardiac Anatomy: Coronary arteries of the heart

300,000 to 600,000 YA. The Homo erectus skull Peking Man is also known as Pithecanthropus pekinensis (Sinanthropus). The gray coloration indicates areas that were sculpted based on the original fragments. This scan was made as a collaborative effort between The Ohio State University [Department of Anthropology](https://anthropology.osu.edu/), the [Office of Distance Education and eLearning](https://odee.osu.edu/), and the [Department of Art](https://art.osu.edu/).

Captured with a Canon EOS camera array and processed/edited in Agisoft Photoscan.

This scan was produced in 2017 the 3D scanning lab, created and run by Andrew Frueh, in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.

Homo erectus Skull

3D scan of Franz Viehböck's Sokol space suit that he wore on his flight to the space station MIR. Franz Viehböck studied electronics engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, and became the first and as of today only Austrian Astronaut. On the 2nd of October, 1991, the Sojus-TM-13-rocket started in Baikonur (KAZ). The commander of the Austromir mission was the Russian Alexander Volkov and the third man was the Kazakh Toktar Aubakirov. 

The space suit is no longer exhibited at the Natural History Museum Vienna, but was on display from 2015–2021. It will be put on display at the Technical Museum Vienna. We want to thank Franz Viehböck for the opportunity to scan and present this piece of Austrian history!

This is an animation of an subadult Atlantic Sturgeon.

This 3D model is a composite of images from a subadult Atlantic Sturgeon  (Acipenser oxyrhynchus oxyrhynchus) housed at the Maymont Nature Center (https://maymont.org/animals/nature-center/), and a scan from a preserved Atlantic Sturgeon from the Natural History Collection at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (https://bcrc.bio.umass.edu/nhc/home).

CG artists Jer Bot, Johnson Martin and Robert Gutierrez used Blender to reconstruct the full fish from these scans and images, as well as animate the movements. Model 66A - Atlantic Sturgeon

Micro CT scan of a raven skull from the D’Arcy Thompson Zoology Museum at the University of Dundee.

Scanned with a Nikon XT H 225ST micro CT scanner. The resulting file is exported as an stl. and imported in to Zbrush. Texture is added from photographs using the Spotlight function and Polypainting.

Raven skull

La Motilla del Azuer (Daimiel, Spain) is a Bronze Age fortified enclosure built of stone and defended by an outer wall and several intermediate walls. Dating between 2200 and 1500 BC, these walls protect the oldest and most well documented motilla in the Iberian Peninsula. Additionally this site exhibits an impressive funnel-shaped well that is more than 20 meters deep allowing it to reach the aquifer.

Some of the data for this project were originally collected as a joint effort between researchers at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) and CVAST at the University of South Florida (USF) under the legal permission of Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha (Expte. 16.0834-P1. Sistema de documentación 3D del Patrimonio Cultural de Castilla-La Mancha). Data were provided by UCLM and FBK and are now being re-analyzed and re-processed by Global Digital Heritage (GDH).

La Motilla del Azuer - Daimiel, Spain

A Victorian wooden row boat, designed and made for a University project, the Infinite runner, set in Victorian London. This piece is part of a larger sewer environment setting and serves as the player character. Modelled in 3DS max and textured in Substance Painter. Budget for this project was 7k tris.

Victorian Row Boat

This bright blue glass boardgame piece is crowned with a ring of white bobbles. It is likely to be the King from a set used for playing a version of 'tafl' - a family of games played in Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Denmark and Sweden which are derived from the Roman wargame Ludus Latrunculorum. It was found during a community-led archaeological dig on Lindisfarne, organised by DigVentures and Durham University.
