Built around the skeletal remains of the Godzilla that attacked Tokyo in 1954, Kiryu was an advanced cyborg designed to defend Japan from the kaiju that frequently menace it, particularly the current Godzilla. Kiryu first saw action in 2003 when he was deployed to battle Godzilla when he surfaced at Hakkeijima. However, Godzilla's roar awakened the original Godzilla's restless spirit that was attached to Kiryu's skeleton, causing the machine to go berserk. Kiryu was recalled and his programming altered so this incident could never occur again, then was sent out against Godzilla a second time when he landed at Tokyo. Kiryu fought Godzilla to a draw, leaving him with a gruesome chest wound and himself losing an arm. Kiryu was rebuilt over the course of a year, and sent into combat with Godzilla again when he returned to Tokyo. Kiryu fought alongside Mothra and her twin larvae, and finally triumphed against his organic counterpart by reopening the wound on Godzilla's chest.

In Greek art, the Amazons, a mythical race of warrior women from Asia Minor, were often depicted battling such heroes as Herakles, Achilles, and Theseus. This statue represents a refugee from battle who has lost her weapons and bleeds from a wound under her right breast. Her chiton is unfastened at one shoulder and belted at the waist with a makeshift bit of bridle from her horse. Despite her plight, her face shows no sign of pain or fatigue. She leans lightly on a pillar at her left and rests her right arm gracefully on her head in a gesture often used to denote sleep or death. Such emotional restraint was characteristic of classical art of the second half of the fifth century B.C.

This wire sculpture by British artist Richard Stainthorp showcases his signature ability to turn industrial materials into expressive human forms. Strade Dominican Friary, National Monument No. 172.  The abbey at Strade dates to the mid-13th century, when it first started as a Franciscan Friary, established by the Lord of Athlethan (Ballylahan), Jordan de Exeter. The Dominican friars moved into Strade in 1253. The priory was dedicated to the Holy Cross & was a daughter house of Sligo Dominican priory (SL014-068008-).  A papal indulgence granted in 1434  may have resulted in a rebuilding phase of the church.  The carving of the vulning pelican (from the Latin vulnerō, “to wound”) on the north wall of the crossing tower of the friary church dates from the 15th-century.  In Medieval Christianity, the pelican feeding its young with its own blood was a symbol for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross & the Eucharist.  Also known as the Pelican in Her Piety, the bird piercing it's breast to shed blood is an allegory of Christ on the Cross, a symbol of the Passion of Christ. The gantry crane, for its part, travels on a track made of rails laid directly on the ground. The two beams forming its width are joined together. At the top of the assembly, running lengthwise, are two longitudinal beams, also joined together, on which rests a track made of rails. A trolley travels on these rails, supporting the lifting equipment itself, which consists of one or two winches around which the lifting cables are wound, as well as the gripping device, which can be a hoist, a hydraulic clamp, a grapple, or an electromagnet. 
These gantries generate significant work for surveying technicians:
- Geometric signatures (recording of the wireframe and monitoring of deformations)
using retroreflective targets installed at strategic joints
- Expert assessments following damage
- Monitoring of boom closure trajectories
- Layout and monitoring of translation rails on the ground and in the boom
- 3D laser scanning (simulation of clearance and unloading phases)

Gantry Cranes-6TMD-modeling

This is the second 3D model of the 'Great Animal' on Rock 6 at Luine.  The other (Model Luine - Rock 6 (1)), was made from photos taken in July 2025 when viewing conditions were not at all ideal due to the strong overhead sun.  The photos on this model were taken on my second visit in November 2025, when the sun was less intense and striking the carved surfaces at a more oblique angle.  

Rock 6 has over 50 square metres of widely differing carvings from many periods.  The Great Animal is The earliest of the carvings here, and one of the earliest in Valcamonica.  The figure is generally agreed to be an elk, wounded by thrown weapons.  It is thought to date at the latest from the sixth millennium BC - elks became extinct in Valcamonica around this time.  Its collar must be considered a later 'add-on.' There are six other, much less well defined, epipaleolithic animal figures identified on Rock 6 but this example is the most visible.  The other animal figures are mostly elks but one or two may be goats.

Farm in the village of Lukashivka, Chernihiv oblast, Ukraine. About 30 people worked here and more than 120 cows were kept. More than 1.5 tons of milk were produced daily. In mid-March 2022 the farm was hit by a dozen of russian rockets and grain storage got destroyed as well as half of cattle died. Ukrainian soldiers were hiding in a farm and nearby structures, few got wounded and 2 soldiers died. After the liberation of Lukashivka, the farm slowly continues its activity, but it still needs to be restored and cant produce as much dairy as before the war.
