Zalipie, a village in southern Poland, is most famous for its folk art. Local artists have been covering houses in traditional floral motifs, a custom with roots back in the 18th century, when housekeepers would lighten sooty interiors of their huts by covering them with limewash. Through the 19th century the practice evolved into a habit of decorating cottages - both on the inside and on the outside - with colorful painted ornaments. The tradition has been kept up in the 20th century by dedicated artists like Felicja Curyłowa (1904-1974) and - thanks to her and her followers - to this day we can admire unique local art, and house painting contests are still held to support this live tradition. The 3D model was created based on one of the oldest, finest examples of a Zalipie painted house.

A traditional hut of the Luo people. A typical homestead consisted of several huts, including one for the husband and separate huts for each wife or adult sons.

This specific hut is large and spacious, of a grandeur typically only enjoyed by the first wife of an established family. That said, individual taste, style, availability of material, and general economic means resulted in great diversity among the greater Luo community as regards the small details. Still, this hut can be seen as the most archetypal appearance, with differences in size or trim keeping to the same general design. Round huts like this one can still be seen at museums or cultural heritage sites across Kenya, and square-walled versions of similar design are common to this day in rural areas of the Luo Nyanza region.

The whole of Rock 18 is covered in engravings, but this central area holds the greatest concentration, where a number of characteristic forms known as 'huts' occur.

Some of these contain certain realistic features: a central post, a supporting plinth and a roof with projecting beams.

The huts, which are a feature typical of the Camunian area, have been interpreted in various ways: initially as images of real structures such as houses, warehouses (grain stores) and temples.   More recently it has been suggested that they are imaginary places, probably sacred and connected with the afterlife (with cinerary urns from Tuscany & Lazio providing a comparison).   

My own thoughts are that they represent real structures as they occur in village scenes with people and animals around them. The population had to occupy some sort of structures and no other types of dwelling occur on the corpus of engravings in Valcamonica.

Between the huts are warrior figures, goblets, animals, an inverted bird and an inscription.

Valcamonica, Seradina 2 - Rock 18

A small rock with an isolated figure of a 'hut.' The hut figures are generally less common on the western side of the valley than the east (Naquane, Foppe di Nadro etc.) but there are nevertheless many such depiction here in Seradina and close by in Bedolina.

Valcamonica, Seradina 2 - Rock 17

Hey guys, it's been a while. Apologies for my inactivity. I'm thinking of creating a community discord server incase Sketchfab shuts down in the future. The server will help to keep you guys posted on any other things I'm working on, let me know if you're interested 👀.

Valcamonica, Naquane - Rock 35 (3)

This is a realistic 3D village environment featuring small houses made of mud and bricks with thatched and tiled roofs. The village includes narrow dirt roads, green trees and farmland, wooden fences, a small river flowing alongside the settlement, traditional wells, lanterns, carts, and village huts.
The scene is designed with natural daytime lighting and sunlight to create an authentic rural atmosphere. Textures are detailed and optimized, making the model suitable for games, animations, virtual environments, and marketplace use.
The village is built in low to medium poly, ensuring good performance while maintaining visual quality.
