The common snapping turtle (*Chelydra serpentina*) is a large freshwater turtle of the family Chelydridae. Its natural range extends from southeastern Canada, southwest to the edge of the Rocky Mountains, as far east as Nova Scotia and Florida. This turtle species is noted for its combative disposition when out of the water with its powerful beak-like jaws, and highly mobile head and neck (hence the specific name *serpentina*, meaning "snake-like"). In water, they are likely to flee and hide themselves underwater in sediment.

**Bird’s Foot Delta — Mississippi River**

This model represents the Bird’s Foot Delta of the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, USA. The delta is characterized by long, narrow distributary channels extending into the Gulf of Mexico, forming a shape that resembles a bird’s foot. The landscape forms as river sediments are transported downstream and deposited where the river meets the ocean, gradually building new land over time.

The terrain model was generated from a 1-meter resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) obtained from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) and distributed by OpenTopography.

Bird Foot Delta

Loamata is a small, swamp dwelling matamata Pokémon that lives in wetlands rich with iron-heavy soil and sediment. Mineral laden mud clings to its head and shell, forming thick, drooping frills along the sides of its face. These frills are heavy, wet, and viscous, constantly sagging with moisture.

This is a fossilised fruit *Spondylostrobus smithii*. Fruits like this are extremely rare in the fossil record, especially since it has not undergone distortion during burial. It was recovered from sediments of middle Cenozoic age from the gold fields of Victoria (SE Australia) during the gold rush of the middle 1800s.

This object is part of the historical ‘Ettingshausen collection’, which is on permanent loan from the Institute of Biology, University of Graz. It is not currently on display.

The object shown represents a blade core made of radiolarite. The core was used as a source of raw material for the manufacture of precision cutting tools such as knives, drills and arrowheads. Radiolarite is an aquagenic sedimentary rock whose composition consists mainly of microcrystalline quartz. 

This object was digitized through the ‘Kulturerbe digital’ program of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport.

This model was generated from 93 images taken with GoPro Hero Black 9 camera using Agisoft Metashape at high resolution. The name of the vessel is presently unknown, but it is believed to be the remains of one of the many small oyster skiffs that once worked around Swansea Bay. Indeed, during the peak of the industry between 1850-1873, over 1 million oysters were being landed per year at the Mumbles. Oyster skiffs were a small specialised sailing craft, typically measuring between 37-40ft (11.2-12.1m) in length, with a keel of about 31ft (9.5m). The remains comprise a keel, large metal fastenings and a few frames on the port side and match these dimensions. The beach sediment transport direction is south-westward towards Mumbles Head. This was evident on repeat visits, with a build up of largely windblown sand on the northern side of the wreck. Otherwise, the beach sediment levels are reported to be staple. Gypsum is an evaporite mineral most commonly found in layered sedimentary deposits in association with halite, anhydrite, sulfur, calcite, and dolomite. Gypsum is very similar to Anhydrite. The chemical difference is that gypsum contains two waters and anhydrite is without water. Gypsum is the most common sulfate mineral.

Gypsum uses include: manufacture of wallboard, cement, plaster of Paris, soil conditioning, a hardening retarder in portland cement. Varieties of gypsum known as "satin spar" and "alabaster" are used for a variety of ornamental purposes; however, their low hardness limits their durability.
