Ardavin´s medieval clock. Model Immanuel

The sculpture depicts St Olaf, the patron saint of Norway. It originally stood in [Bunge church](https://bit.ly/3kRRJxG) on the Swedish island of Gotland. It is dated to the early 14th century. A number of sculptures from the same period are assumed to be from the same artisan, called the Bunge Master.

The sculpture is carved in oak. Religious sculptures in Gothic style have extravagant dresses with many folds. In the deep folds of the St Olaf sculpture traces of red, green and blue paint as well as gilding are visible.
[St Olaf (Olaf Haraldsson)](https://bit.ly/3yGw6VO) was a Norwegian King living between 995 and 1030. He introduced Christianity in Norway, in the same way his father-in-law [Olof Skötkonung](https://bit.ly/3talcGT) did in Sweden.

**Red‑Gold Dragon vs. Blue‑Silver Dragon**

The Red‑Gold Dragon and the Blue‑Silver Dragon, collectively classified as *Draconis geminiflare*, are legendary twin forces said to have emerged during the late Warring States period. Ancient astronomers believed their intertwined forms mirrored a rare celestial phenomenon, two comet tails crossing in the night sky, interpreted as a sign of cosmic recalibration.

Though often depicted in eternal combat, scholars argue their clash was never about dominance. Instead, each dragon embodied a natural principle: ignition and stillness, eruption and clarity. Their unexpected purpose was pedagogical. Monks studying their mythic duel used the dragons’ mirrored movements to teach balance, how opposing energies can create harmony when neither seeks victory.

Even today, artisans echo their spirals in pottery, dance, and martial forms, preserving the lesson hidden within their legendary struggle.

The Red‑Gold Dragon, *Draconis aurumflamma*, is said to have first appeared in the mountain courts of early Zhou‑era mystics, who described it as a creature woven from storm‑light and molten ore. Legends claim emperors sought its favor not for war, but for wisdom: the dragon’s spiraling body was believed to map celestial currents, allowing scholars to predict seasonal shifts and political tides.

Modern folklorists were stunned when a 19th‑century naturalist proposed a semi‑scientific classification, arguing that its serpentine anatomy resembled an evolutionary offshoot of ancient river reptiles. Though unproven, the idea gave the Red‑Gold Dragon a curious place in proto‑mythological biology.

Its most unexpected purpose, however, lies in ritual craftsmanship. Artisans once invoked the dragon not as a guardian but as a muse for precision, believing its coils taught the perfect balance between tension and grace, a philosophy still echoed in calligraphy and martial arts today.
