The S14 Silvia debuted in Japan towards the end of 1993. It was lower and wider than the S13. New rounded styling contributed to the illusion of a greater increase in size than actually occurred. Wheelbase and track were both increased, leading to slightly improved handling. Unlike export markets, where sales of the S14 chassis variants faltered, the Silvia remained popular in Japan. However, the width dimension exceeded 1,700 mm (67 in), which pushed this generation out of the compact class tax bracket and made Japanese buyers liable for higher road taxes. Sales of the S14 also faltered because specialty car buyers at the time were moving to RVs and SUVs. The fastback and convertible bodystyles were discontinued internationally, leaving only the coupé in production.

The four-character panel over the doorway reads, Humility Brings Prosperity (Lüqian Jianfeng 履謙漸豐). The gate demonstrates the hallmarks of traditional Chinese architecture: a post-and-lintel structure that supports a graceful gable roof and intricate rafters, as well as brackets that extend the eaves and provide decoration. Like other works of traditional Chinese architecture, no glue or nails were used, and the gate was assembled using only joinery and wooden pins.*

One of the three wooden domes (*zaojing* 藻井, lit. "water-weed wells") originally from the Longfusi (Monastery of Grand Blessings, dated 1452, now lost) in Beijing. The dome features miniature bracket sets and interlaced squares, diamonds, and octagons. It is now exhibited in the Museum of Ancient Architecture (古代建築博物館) at the Temple of Agriculture (Xiannongtan 先農壇) in Beijing.

15th-century stone corbel decorated with a vine-leaf motif in the south wall of the sacristy to the north of the chancel in Portumna Dominican Friary, Co. Galway. In architecture, a corbel is a structural piece of stone, wood or metal keyed into and projecting from a wall to carry a bearing weight, a type of bracket.  The word "corbel" originates from the Old French corbel (a raven) and the Medieval Latin corbellus or corvellus, which is a diminutive of the Latin corvus (raven or crow). It refers to the beak-like or bird-like projection of these stone brackets from a wall, a term appearing in English around the mid-14th century.  The underside of this stone corbel is decorated with a three-leaf motif carved in relief. The friary, National Monument No. 461, was built in the 13th-century as a Cistercian chapel dedicated to Saints Peter & Paul. In 1414 the O’Madden family granted the church to the Dominican Order.
