Pumpkin Graveyard Halloween Diorama

The model was made for the ETW mod Imperial Splendour. It serves as a city model for the town of Hannover.
In the model itself are many historical buildings which once were located (and are demolished today) in Hannover as well as several drafts which were never built. 

I tried to represent the division between the old town, coming from the middle ages on the right with timber-frame and Renaissance houses and the new town ("Calenberger Neustadt") on the left which was built in the 17th century and where the townhouses of the nobility stood.

Most prominent on the right is the Marktkirche (Market Church). Outside the actual town you can see the Nikolaikapelle (Nikolai chapel) with its graveyard. Today the Nikolaikapelle is a ruin.

Stone cross (H 0.88m; arm span 0.7m) with fleur-de-lis/leaf-and-bud terminals standing in southern quadrant of Portumna Abbey (GA127-019----) graveyard (GA127-019013-), Co. Galway.  The centre of the cross head as has a lozenge shaped hole in the centre. The chamfered shaft is octagonal in plan. The cross stands in an octagonal-shaped base (int. dims. 0.45m N-S; 0.45m E-W). Portumna Abbey Cross (GA127-019011-)

Maddoxtown Church ruin not far from Kilkenny along the old road to Bennettsbridge. It's not exactly in a great state. It is a small single-cell church building (no differentiation between chancel and nave), which seems to have been built using earth mortar construction with a lime mortar pointing and rendering. The earth mortar is exposed at the breach in the west gable. Only one window survives in the south wall. The south wall also has a buttress at its west end, the buttress on the north wall seems to have been collapsed, judging from the heap of stones there. The church was already a ruin at the time of the Down Survey (1650s).

There is also a beautifully carved baptismal font of the Ossory type still surviving in the graveyard (repaired). Worth a visit.

Maddoxtown Church

19th-century headstone of  Patrick Barron (born c. 1810) who died aged 19 in 1829 and was buried in Nenagh graveyard, Kenyon Street, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. The headstone was erected by his father Daniel Barron.  Inscription framed within a lozenge border.  The top of the headstone has a central crucifixion flanked by the Instruments of the Passion aka Arma Christi (Weapons of Christ).  The base of the headstone has been signed by the stonecutter W. P. Birdhill.  These are the initials of William Philpot a stonecutter based around Cragg quarry near the village of Birdhill on the Limerick/Tipperary border. In 1938 P. Barron (born c. 1870) who was a blacksmith aged 68 lived in Sarsfield Street in the town of Nenagh. According to folklore collected from Mr Barron the Barron family in Nenagh were shoemaker's up to one hundred and 50 years ago (c. 1788).   In 1901 there was a record of the death of Daniel Barron (born c. 1801) of Francis Street, a shoemaker. Best viewed in Matcap render.

Patrick Barron Headstone Kenyon St. Nenagh

19th-century slate headstone of Patrick Madden (born c. 1829) who died aged 36 in 1865 & was buried in Nenagh graveyard, Kenyon Street, Co. Tipperary.  The inscription is framed within a border of semi-circles and double incised line running up along either side of the headstone.  The top of the headstone has a double-line inscised Latin Cross with expanded terminals, flanked on either site by an incised heart.  Above the hearts either side of the cross are lozenges framed within a decorative panel.  Two curvilinear lozenges are visible either side of the cross base.  Four leaf-cross withere side of the incised hearts.  Symbols on top of the headstone framed by border of semi-circles which may represent the folds of a a curtain pulled back to reveal the symbols.  Possible curvilinear sunburst quadrants in the corners of the border of the symbols and inscription panel. The horizontal lines visible on the inscription are ruling lines used by the stonecutter to set height, alignment, & spacing of the letters.

Pat Madden Headstone Kenyon Street Nenagh

Clomantagh Church ruin was recently tidied up and the walls repointed thanks to a grant from the Heritage Council, and the difference really shows. The church has a double bellcote at the west gable, a now partly blocked-up doorway in the south wall and a better preserved doorway in the north wall. The east gable features two lancet windows of which most carved stones no longer survive in situ. The south and north walls have two smaller windows each towards the east end of the church. The walls have an unusual amount of quite large putlog holes, some of which are now used by birds as nesting boxes. A few architectural fragments from the church can still be found in the graveyard and adjoining field.

It was quite a windy day, and I wasn't too comfortable with having the drone up too high, so the tops of the gable walls aren't great, but it still gives a general idea of the architecture and state of the building.

Clomantagh Church

Former mensa of a table tomb commemorating Thebald (Theobald) Purcell and his wife Catherine (apparently) of Clone (Clone Castle KK009-045----). I could only make out the "Hic iacet Thebald", the HEV did the rest. It is beautifully carved, once you can see it under all the moss and debris.

There is a side panel somewhere in the graveyard depicting the symbols of the passion and a front (short) panel depicting the crucifixion with Mary and John which we did find, but the scan didn't come out well. The HEV describes them all under the same number, but they are now separated and seemingly scattered over the graveyard and church.

Rathbeagh Church: Thebald Purcell grave slab

A small stylized shrub/bush sculpt designed to add natural detail and variety to environment scenes. The piece emphasizes clean, readable shapes and a slightly exaggerated form, making it visually appealing from both near and far.

The sculpt focuses on organic flow and subtle asymmetry, capturing the irregularities of natural foliage while keeping a cohesive stylized aesthetic. Its simple, sculpted structure makes it versatile for use in forests, gardens, graveyards, or fantasy environments.

Created in ZBrush, this high-resolution sculpt is ideal as part of modular vegetation sets, and can be adapted or optimized for real-time applications in engines like Unreal or Unity.

Stylized Shrub

Discovery 2 at the second visit: A partial cross slab (bottom part, but used here upside down) dating likely to the 13th or 14th century, judging from the fleur-de-lys motif. Also not recorded by the National Monuments Service (yet). There is no inscription on it, but they tended to be towards the head of the cross which is missing. It might still be in the graveyard somewhere, though.

Ballyellin: partial cross slab

One of four medieval cross slabs surviving in Ballycallan (St Brigid's) Graveyard. It dates to the 13th or 14th century. It is the lower portion of an incised cross, now sticking out of the ground upside down. It does not seem to be tapering and I'd say, it might have been wider once, because it seems unusual to just have one bevelled edge.

Not sure exactly which of the four it is, so I will have to assign the SMR numbers by their location on the HEV map.

Ballycallan: Cross slab fragment

This rock was long known by local inhabitants as the 'Puppet Stone' in reference to the carvings upon it.  The main facing containing most of the engravings is badly damaged, especially the lower part, which remained underground for a long time.

To date over 150 engravings have been identified, including many animals, a dagger and a ploughing scene.  The animals include; stags with large antlers, fawns, chamois with short, hooked horns, ibex with backward-fgacing horns and swine (wild boars & pigs).  The canids, depicted in groups with downward-pointing tails, are interpreted as a pack of wolves.  The cattle, without horns or tails, may represent young oxen or cows grazing.

The presence of daggers which closely resemble finds from the graveyard of Remedello Sotto, dates most of the figures to 2900-2500 BC.  A few animals depicted in a dynamic style, similar to that of figures on the Cemmo 3 & 4 stelae, may be attributed to the Bell Beaker Culture (2500-2200 BC).

Stylized Gravestones

Cedric Diggory was the son of Amos Diggory and his wife. He started attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff. During his time at the school, he was a prefect, and captained the Hufflepuff Quidditch team, playing as Seeker. In his seventh year, Cedric put his name forward to compete in the Triwizard Tournament. He was selected as the Hogwarts Triwizard Champion, and, although overshadowed in the press by the entry of Harry Potter, Cedric enjoyed almost overwhelming support from the student body, and, after the first two tasks, tied with Harry for first place. In the third task, Harry and Cedric were transported to Little Hangleton Graveyard when they touched the Triwizard Cup, which had been secretly turned into a portkey. There, Cedric was murdered by Wormtail on Voldemort's orders. When Harry and Voldemort's wands connected in Priori Incantantem, Cedric's ghost asked Harry to return his body to his father.

Lego Harry Potter: Cedric Diggory(2018-1st Task)

Harry Potter enters the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament as a determined yet wary champion, navigating a vast, enchanted hedge maze filled with deadly creatures, illusions, and dark interference. He overcomes a Boggart disguised as a Dementor, solves a Sphinx’s riddle, and resists sabotage orchestrated by Barty Crouch Jr., ultimately rescuing Cedric Diggory and choosing fairness over victory. Together, they grasp the Triwizard Cup, unknowingly activating a Portkey.

Transported to the Little Hangleton graveyard, Harry witnesses Cedric’s sudden murder and is bound as Peter Pettigrew uses dark magic to restore Lord Voldemort. Forced into a duel, Harry’s courage endures as Priori Incantatem reveals echoes of Voldemort’s victims, aiding his escape. Grasping the Cup once more, Harry returns with Cedric’s body, forever marked by trauma and the Dark Lord’s return.

Lego Harry Potter: Harry Potter(2019-3rd Task)

The partial shaft of an early 12th-century high cross (CL045-033010-) with rune & scholastic ogham inscription that was discovered in 1916, built into the graveyard wall of St. Flannan's Cathedral (CL045-033006-), Killaloe, Co. Clare, now erected inside the west end of the cathedral.  Runic inscription on the broad western face of the cross-shaft reads (TH) URGRIM RISTI (KR)US THINA which has been translated as 'Thorgrim raised this cross'.  A scholastic ogham inscription is visible on the narrow southern face which reads BENDACHT ... TOROQR ... that has been interpreted as BENDACHT FOR TOROQRIM or 'A Blessing on T(horgrim)'.   A naive Crucifixion figure is visible on the eastern face of the cross-shaft.  Dr Griffin Murray of University College Cork has identfied him as Thorgrim Furcap, a Norwegian baron, who overwintered in Killaloe in 1102 with the King of Norway, Magnús Barelegs, in his alliance with Muirchertach Ua Briain. Stone Tomb Grave

Graveslab of Patrick Purcell's son "de Lismeane" (i.e. Lismaine) in the Graveyard of Rathbeagh Church. It can be found East of the Church and has some nice interwoven designs on it. The sun was shining just right to make it easier tor read. 
The son's name either starts with a K or a T so, more likely T, bc K is probably for "Katherine". Apparently, he had a son called Peter (acc. to Carrigan). Must check the Ormond Deeds to see if I find a candidate.
