Mosasaurus

The potto (*Perodicticus potto*) is a small (30–40cm) species of primate closely related to lorises and lemurs that inhabits the rainforest canopies of tropical Africa. The potto is nocturnal and feeds mostly on fruit, but has strong jaws that enable it to eat tree gums that are too tough for many other animals; around 10% of its diet consists of insects. 

Whilst moving it is usually very quiet, but has few natural predators as large carnivorous mammals cannot reach the forest canopy, and co-occurring birds of prey hunt during the day. If threatened, the potto can use its specially sharpened and elongated neck vertebrae to butt at an opponent. 

This specimen forms part of the Lapworth’s Humphreys Collection. Digitisation was carried out using an Artec Spider 3D scanner by Rachel Kruft Welton.

the great white, also known as white pointer, white death is a 20 foot long shark and has a bite force of 4000 lbs. This is also rumoured to be the shark that eats people but they attack rarely. Although the great white inspired many movies, including Jaws, the real culprit of most shark attacks are bull sharks.

The common snapping turtle (*Chelydra serpentina*) is a large freshwater turtle of the family Chelydridae. Its natural range extends from southeastern Canada, southwest to the edge of the Rocky Mountains, as far east as Nova Scotia and Florida. This turtle species is noted for its combative disposition when out of the water with its powerful beak-like jaws, and highly mobile head and neck (hence the specific name *serpentina*, meaning "snake-like"). In water, they are likely to flee and hide themselves underwater in sediment.

Snapping Turtle

This automated clock is one half of a pair, the other one is a female lion.

When the clock strikes inside the lion its eyes start rolling, the jaws open and close.

The skin covering the machinery has become worn over the years. We will have to imagine a thick mane and a golden fur on the lion.

To modern eyes the clock looks like a toy. To the 17th century spectator, it was a precious little miracle and a display of human progress. The lion was a symbol of Africa, a continent that the Europeans had recently started discovering. The clock work was a result of the human efforts to control time and the machinery showed the new mechanical knowledge.


The drawer in the clock once contained a key to the clock work, possibly a description of it and, perhaps, remains of a real lion.


It was typical for the 17th century thinking that the lion clocks were a pair. Two halves forming a whole was an important concept.

Megalodon

A massive, bulky creature inspired by an oversized turtle, redesigned with monstrous proportions and a threatening presence. The thick shell is rough, broken, and uneven, covered with spikes and sharp protrusions that give it a heavily armored look. Its head is broad and powerful, featuring strong jaws filled with sharp teeth, while small, pale or faintly glowing eyes add to its intimidating expression. Arms and legs are short, thick, and muscular, ending in heavy claws capable of digging into the ground or striking as weapons. A short, thick tail with additional spikes reinforces its brutal design. Wrinkled, leathery skin with small spiked scales covers the exposed areas, making the creature feel ancient, slow, but immensely powerful.

Giant Armored Turtle Monster

Recumbent 15th-century chamfered cross-slab grave-cover measuring 1.9m long by 0.09m thick, the base of the slab measures 0.64m wide which narrows to 0.54m, in the south-east corner of the chancel of Portumna Dominican Friary church (GA127-019----), Co. Galway. Chamfered slab the top of which has a sunburst-motif with human face representing Christ flanked by a serpent/monster with open jaws, dotted body and curving tail which runs across onto the the sunurst motif.  A triangular-shaped motif above the open jaws may represent the tongue of the serpent with fish beneath. Above this there is an eight pointed encircled rosette and an eight armed encircled cross between which there are two human heads above which there is a base for the shaft of the central cross.  Two four cornered knots either side of the shaft of the central cross which forms the centre of six rows of three encircled crosses with vine leaf terminals representing the blood of Christ. **Dunkleosteus**

This is a 3D model of Dunkleosteus, one of the most powerful marine predators of the Late Devonian period (~358 million years ago). This reconstruction is inspired by modern paleontological interpretations, featuring a streamlined body, heavy cranial armor, and bone-blade jaws rather than true teeth.

Unlike older bulky depictions, this version emphasizes a more hydrodynamic, fast-swimming form, similar to modern sharks, while maintaining the iconic armored head plates that made Dunkleosteus such a formidable hunter.

Tyrannosaurus Rex

15th-century recumbent floriated cross-slab grave cover measuring 1.97m long by 0.55m top width which tapers to a base width of 0.51m by 0.05m thick, in the northeast corner of the chancel of the Dominican friary church (GA127-019----) in Portumna, Co. Galway. Slightly tapered chamfered graveslab, which is broken in two pieces, decorated with a floriated Latin cross in low relief. The shaft (Wth 0.14m) and arms of the cross are decorated with vine leaf or fleur-de-lis/bud and leaf motif.  A four leaf cross is visible at the top of the cross shaft and forms the arms of the cross. Portumna Graveslab (GA127-019003-)

Ceramic drum of the “Pax” type from the Pacific Coast of Guatemala, dating to the Late Classic period (650–900 AD). It features an oval resonating chamber and a pedestal that functions as the instrument’s handle. The main chamber is decorated with a relief face showing round ear ornaments and a short beard. The opposite side bears an incised panel that appears to represent the open jaws of a serpent viewed from the front.

Brucetta is a 35 foot Great White Shark that broke into the Orlando Sea World Resort. And is the main villain of the 1983 film, Jaws 3-D. This model is based off of the animatronic used in the film, not the full shark. Since this model wad made using AI, it has lots of triangles and vertices, so it might not load in when download. But, a new full bodied Brucetta model is coming soon!

**Dating:** 15 - 375 CE

The artefact is a bronze pin brooch in its complete form, featuring a tall, trapezoidal pin holder. The bow and the pin are connected by a rivet, around which the pin can move. Both are extended beyond the rivet eye by two pliers-like jaws. When the pin is closed, these jaws press against each other and apply tension to the brooch. This is followed by a short, straight shank, which ends in a bent-up segment.

This object was digitized through the ‘Kulturerbe digital’ program of the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, Public Service and Sport.
