The Fighting Machine (also known as a Tripod) is one of the fictional machines used by the Martians in H. G. Wells' classic science fiction novel The War of the Worlds.

This is a photogrammetry of the remains of the Kannonzaki Battery No. 3 in Yokosuka City, Japan.
The site of a gun battery and the brick tunnel remain in Kannonzaki Park.
Two howitzers were installed in the mortar-shaped turret.

I attached a 20mm prime lens and a clip-on flash to a Sony A1 on a tripod and took 650 photos. The photos were taken on a lightly cloudy day, and the tunnel lighting and de-lighting the outside of the tunnel was done using flash light.

WAR OF THE TRIPODS

Scanned today (2016-12-05) in a grave yard in Ft. Worth, Texas.

This is a decimated model. Processed using RealityCapture with 335 photographs. Canon 6D, 50mm lens, 800 ISO, f8 @ 1/100 sec. No tripod and no footstool to get the top of the cross... oh, well... I think I got most of the important stuff.

ETH: Tellurium with Lunarium

It has six legs, two claws, two green eyes (making it similar to the tripods in appearance) and a basket, in order to collect humans from Earth (Unlike the novel, where the Tripods take this role. Inside the hood of the handling machine the Martians drain the fresh, living blood of their captives and inject it into their own veins. This process is partially depicted in the on screen element of the live show.

Polychrome tripod plate (black and red on orange) decorated with death-related symbols. At the center appears the image of a water lily leaf surrounded by three flowers with open corollas and three stamens. This motif, enclosed within a circle, is framed by a decorative band that extends across the entire interior wall surface, featuring crossed bones, bulging eyes, and what appear to be the eyes of supernatural beings with baton- or reptilian-shaped irises. Plate with Death Motifs

Codex-style tripod vase, decorated with an underworld scene. The scene shows the image of a spider monkey, in left profile, wearing a piece of cloth over its shoulders formerly known as a "sacrificial scarf" but now associated with the supernatural characters known as wahy [way or waay].  The monkey has a deer's ear and a curled tail. In one of its hands he holds what is known as a "triadic plate" containing a severed hand, a nucleated eye and a femur. On the opposite side of the vase is the image of an ocellated turkey, standing with spread wings and tail.  A series of curved, dotted lines painted above the bird's head seem to indicate that the turkey is in motion, perhaps dancing. The scene is framed by two horizontal red bands.
