A silver denarius of Marcus Aurelius found in Chester is a typical example of Roman coinage circulating in Britain during the 2nd century AD, when the province was firmly under imperial control. These coins were usually struck in Rome between AD 161–180, bearing a portrait of the emperor with a laurel wreath on the obverse and symbolic figures—such as Concordia, Victory, or Jupiter—on the reverse, reflecting imperial virtues and propaganda. Chester (known in Roman times as Deva Victrix) was a major legionary fortress, so the presence of such a coin suggests military pay, trade, or everyday transactions among soldiers and civilians. Finds recorded from the area confirm that denarii of Marcus Aurelius were indeed recovered in Cheshire West and Chester, illustrating both the wide distribution of Roman currency and the continued economic activity in Britain during his reign.

At Ynys we parked up in the village and followed the sign leading up the hill to Eglwys Llanfihangel Y Traethau. In the churchyard is an extremely interesting gravestone. Important because a) it is positively dated to the reign of Owain Gwynedd, the King who reigned between 1137 and 1170, and b) it is the grave of a woman, clearly of status. 

The stone reads Hoc (or perhaps Hic) est sepulchrum Wleder matris
Odeleu qui primus edificavit
hanc ecclesiam
in tempore Ewini regis

This means, "Here is the grave of Wleder mother of Hoedliw who first built this church in the reign of King Owain".

The script is carved in a Carolingian style that came to Britain along with the Normans.

Sadly nothing remains of the 12th C church, and we don't know anything more about Wleder or Hoedliw, but there are great views from the church over the Traeth back towards Porthmadog.

British army military barracks,Summerhill, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. 19th-century upright boundary stone No 4 now built into doorway of a house on the north side of the entrance to the barracks. Stone marked the front boundary of the property belonging to the military barracks. B ↑ O which stands for Board of Ordnance. The broad arrow pointing upwards carved between the B O of which the pheon is a variant, is a stylised representation of a metal arrowhead, comprising a tang and two barbs meeting at a point. It is a symbol used traditionally in heraldry, most notably in England, and later by the British government to mark government property. Erected before 1855 when the Board of Ordnance was disbanded and replaced by the War Department. The stone had an earlier number beneath the No. 4 which has been removed and a line put through it, beneath this there are the letters 0 ft. Front. The Board of Ordnance were the custodian of the lands, depots and forts required for the defence of Britain and Ireland.

A toboggan is a sled that was originally used by the North American natives and is now mainly used in North America and Great Britain. The Tyrolean Toboggan is a special variant of the sledge that was developed in Tyrol and is characterized by a flat shape and special steering. In the competition several participants compete against each other and try to cover a distance as quickly and error free as possible. Skill and speed are required. The Tyrolean Toboggan is a typical example of regional toboggan construction and is often used as a tourist attraction.

Diorama titulado “El Paso de los Españoles”, realizado por D. Antonio Zapatero Guardini y D. Pedro Francisco Ramírez Mateo, galardonado con el 1º Premio de Dioramas en 2007 en los Premios Ejército.  En 1719, España apoyó a los jacobitas escoceses, partidarios de restaurar a la Casa Estuardo en el trono británico. Como parte de esta operación, un pequeño contingente español —unos 300 infantes de marina— desembarcó en las Tierras Altas para unirse a los clanes rebeldes.
El 10 de junio de 1719, en la Batalla de Glen Shiel, fuerzas británicas muy superiores derrotaron a la coalición hispano‑jacobita. Tras el combate, los clanes se dispersaron, pero los españoles, disciplinados y cohesionados, realizaron una retirada ordenada por pasos de montaña extremadamente difíciles, evitando ser aniquilados.
Ese movimiento, ejecutado bajo fuego y en terreno casi impracticable, pasó a conocerse como:
